Call of Duty: Black Ops - Confirmed Equipment, Gadgets, Grenades, and More
It's the Little Things in Life... Or Call of Duty: Black Ops
Here is a list of the confirmed equipment other items useable by players with a description:
Frag Grenade - The Frag Grenade is the classic grenade that has been used in the past Call of Duty games. The Frag Grenade has the ability to bounce off of walls and roll down inclines such as stairs, unlike it's brother grenade the Semtex. The Frag Grenade can be cooked, meaning while you hold the button down to throw it the counter keeps ticking for it to blow. If times correctly, you can throw a Frag Grenade and have it explode as soon as it reaches it's target. But be careful - if you cook it too long you'll kill yourself.
Semtex Grenade - The Semtex Grenade is unique as it sticks to objects such as walls, as well as other players. The Semtex has a predetermined timer, so it cannot be cooked like a Frag Grenade. Also, since the Semtex sticks to objects it cannot be ricochet off of walls or roll down inclines. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the Semtex Grenade also emitted a loud beeping noise and had a blinking red light to show it's path.
Tomahawk - The Tomahawk has been described as the Throwing Knife from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Like the Throwing Knife, it's a one hit kill and can be re-used by picking it up off of the ground. However, be careful, as you only have one chance to hit your target in the heat of the moment.
Willy Pete - This is an object that's thrown like a grenade and emits a smoke screen that damages players that get too close to it. The Willy Pete will be good to throw into high traffic areas where you can then mowe down campers and enemy players alike.
Nova Gas - The Nova Gas grenade slows down enemy players and blurs their vision.
Flashbang - The infamous Flashbang has long been used in many games, aside from the Call of Duty games. Even the original Socom players could use Flashbangs - and for good reason as they are great assets to any player's arsenal. The Flashbang deafens and blinds enemies that get hit with it. Also, these can temporarily disable enemy turrets and equipment.
Concussion Grenade - The Concussion Grenade slows down and disorientates enemy targets. These, like the Flashbangs, can temporarily disable enemy turrets and equipment.
Decoy - The Decoy is a unique new piece of equipment added to the Call of Duty series. The Decoy (you get two) is placed by a player in a spot at their discretion. The Decoy then simulates gunfire and makes red dots appear on the enemy mini-map. This tool can be used to flank enemies or get out of sticky situations, or create a distraction so you can complete objectives.
Camera Spike - The Camera Spike is a personal camera that can be placed at the player's discretion. However, the downside is that once the Camera Spike is placed it takes the place of your mini-map. Once the Camera Spike is placed is may be moved at their placing player's discretion.
C4 - The C4 has also been long used in many shooters including past Call of Duty games and some Socom games. The C4 is a personal deployable explosive that may be triggered at the placing player's discretion. A player that uses C4 starts out with two of them. One unique way that the C4 was used in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is when players placed them in front of claymores rendering their claymore explosions more powerful.
Tactical Insertion - The Tactical Insertion was first introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This tool allows the player to choose their spawn point by dropping the Tactical Insertion wherever they please. A lot of players disliked the Tactical Insertion as a lot of other players abused them to "boost". The Tactical Insertion can be used to greatly improve your chances in objective games, especially when your team is currently on the offensive.
Jammer - The Jammer is essentially the "Scrambler" perk from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, just in equipment form. This piece of equipment is good for close quarters combat, or if you're not using a silenced weapon as your position is given away. With a Jammer you can stay hidden, even with an unsilenced weapon.
Motion Sensor - Another piece of equipment that is new to the Call of Duty scene, the Motion Sensor is basically a miniature Spy Plane, as it's radius is smaller. This, in my opinion, is a great piece of equipment as knowing where your enemies is is key to staying alive most of the time, and it nets you a bunch of kills.
Claymore - The Claymore dates back to earlier games such as the original Socom and earlier Call of Duty games (Yes, I am including the Bouncing Betties from World at War since they essentially do the same thing, but just have different explosion radius'). The Claymore detonates when an enemy runs in front of it. Keep in mind that the claymore only explodes in a cone-like area in one direction, so the player planting it must plant it in a smart manner to gain maximum potential from the claymore (or claymores). Claymores are great for sniping, as they watch your back, and great for easy kills since you can lay them down in high traffic areas while you run around and hopefully net a kill or two. Claymores were sometimes useless in Modern Warfare 2 as many people ran Marathon/Lightweight setups that would allow them to trip the claymores, but they would usually take little to no damage. Also, Scrambler Pro delayed the Claymore's detonation intentionally as well, although that perk was used much less.
These are all of the confirmed gadgets, grenades, and equipment for Call of Duty: Black Ops as of right now. So far it looks pretty balanced, so we can only hope for the best in the long run. I guess we'll see what happens when the game itself comes out.
