Also, for those gamers that do not know - the currency in Call of Duty : Black Ops is called "CoD points". You can see them when you highlight your name in a lobby (on the right side), or through the Playercard menu.
So here's some ideas for you Call-of-Dutyians so you can fatten your virtual wallet so you can get the equipment you've been dying (and respawning) for:
Contractual Obligations
Basically - do contracts. Contracts aren't very fun or innovative a lot of times, but they are a way to easily get some extra CoD points.
There are three different contract fields, so a player can actively do three contracts simultaneously. Within each field there is a menu that allows players to choose which contracts they would like to try and complete. Generally speaking, the harder the contract the more currency a player will obtain upon completion. Also, to top it off, the harder contracts will also reward players with some experience points, which is definitely a nice bonus, especially if you're doing anything and everything to grind through the (sometimes) lengthy later levels.
However, players must be careful, as you purchase these contracts initially. If you fail to complete the contract then you're losing money, so it's important to purchase contracts that you are relatively sure you can complete.
Leveling Up Is Rewarding
One aspect that I love about Call of Duty : Black Ops is that they reward you for leveling up. Any time a player gains a new level you'll see that they throw you some additional currency. While the currency isn't very helpful in later levels when you'll have more CoD points, it can mean everything in the early levels when you're scraping around for enough currency for even the most miniscule items.
The CoD Casino - Wager Matches
In this "casino" you don't have to be a certain age to gamble (well, technically 17 in the USA since it is an M-rated game) your well-earned CoD currency.
Wager matches come in an array of different game modes which are as follows (and yes, I was nice enough to include a brief description of each of these modes):
-Gun Game: The gun game wager match pits players against each others, each of them starting with a mere pistol. As they progress (get kills) they get more powerful weapons. Knifing enemy players "demote" them to their previous level, too.
-Sharpshooter: This wager match game mode is much like the "Gun Game", but instead the guns rotate on a timer (45 seconds). The weapons given to players at the end of every cycle is completely random.
-Sticks and Stones: This is probably my favorite wager match game mode, as it's innovative and fun. However, "Sticks and Stones" is relatively hard to get good at, and even harder to perfect. In this game mode players are given a ballistic knife, a tomahawk, and a crossbow with three explosive-tipped arrows. As players progress (by netting kills) they accumulate money. However, hitting an enemy with the tomahawk bankrupts them, so use it carefully and accordingly.
-One in the Chamber: Another innovative wager match game mode. This game modes puts players in the hot seat by not only giving them a pistol, but they also give them a single bullet. Talk about pressure. It takes one shot to kill other players, but if you miss I hope you plan on running behind some cover. If you successfully kill an enemy with your pistol then you get the bullet back automatically.
Getting good at wager matches and successfully net players a hefty chunk of the almighty CoD currency, so practice before you get into wagering high amounts of CoD points.
Call of Conclusion
Currency isn't everything in Call of Duty: Black Ops, but it certainly helps to know how to earn some, and fast, especially in the earlier levels when points are tight. Now you'll be able to afford that claymore you've had your eyes on since you prestiged, that ever-so-popular Ghost perk so you can also look like a mobile bush, or even that pesky Enfield you've wanted since the M16 is quite terrible to most people.
