Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Review

An in Depth Review of Modern Warfare 2 After it Has Had Time to Work Out the Kinks

Modern Warfare 2. November 11th, 2009. I eagerly anticipated the release of the game and even entered into a local tournament to win prizes. That night, in the unorganized sanctity of Game Crazy (the now dead Hollywood Video's video game side of the store) I won two posters and a free copy of the game. I didn't notice much wrong with the game when using the preset classes. I went home with my copy itching to get online. It went great for the first few days. I quickly leveled up and still used my favorite gun from MW1, the M4 Carbine. To this day I still believe that it is the best gun, as I have every single achievement for the gun unlocked.

My play with the game continued to be one of great fun until a little more time went by. Along came the glitches. The javelin glitch, allowing people to arm a rocket and explode with a huge kill radius when they were shot. Then the glitch that would throw you into massive free for all matches that were often on rust. The Model 1887. I'm not even going to start talking about those as it only reminds me of angry days. My favorite class to see people who couldn't play running around with was marathon, lightweight, commando, with tactical knife. It's always just dandy to see that people don't actually care to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Side note, it is rumored that there will be no tactical knife in Special Ops.

Lastly, a lot of little things bother me about MW2. The fact that you can put a sentry gun inside the pillars on Underpass is really annoying. Also the fact that you can survive a semtex stick by pushing your head into a wall is really annoying. How useful that is could be debatable, but if someone manages a stick, give them the stick kill! I hope that one day, either Infinity Ward or Treyarch decides to scrap the noob tube. It makes the game infinitely less fun.

Besides all of this, MW2 is a great game. The guns are great and without noob tubes would be awesome. MW2 needed a redeeming quality that set it aside from the other shooters, but ended up having just as many glitches as Halo 2. How unfortunate. Now we'll have to wait another year and a half to see more Call of Duty work from Infinity Ward. If MW2 didn't have so many problems, I would give it a 9. However with all of the problems encountered by the honest player, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will get a 7.5 from me.
