Call of Duty: World at War was released on November 11, 2008 for PlayStation 3. It was developed by Treyarch. It follows the battles in the Pacific and Europe during the final days of World War II. The game is rated "M" for blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language.

The game features solo and co-op campaign modes, offline. Some of the missions in the solo campaign mode are not available in the co-op version. There are 15 different missions in the solo campaign. Also, available is a 4-player co-op campaign online.

Multiplayer is another aspect of the game. There is offline multiplayer, which allows up to 4 people to play on 1 screen. LAN parties are another way of adding more people to play offline. Offline games modes are: Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, Sabotage, and Free For All.

Online there can be matches with up to 18 players involved. Online allows you to do Core or Hardcore battles. The difference is Hardcore uses different rules and adds to the challenge of playing. The matches for Core include all of the offline game modes plus: Boot Camp, Mercenary Team Deatchmatch, War, Ground War, Team Tactical, and Veteran. The matches for Hardcore are: Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Headquarters, War, Search and Destroy, and Free For All.

When you level up online you unlock different weapons, grenades, perks, and vehicle perks. You also have the ability to create your own custom classes online. Create a class is not available offline, instead you can choose between 10 classes made by the developers. The game features 8 maps, plus they added a free map called Makin Day. Maps range from small to large. There are 65 levels online and you can prestige after level 65. Once you prestige you start over from level 1. After the first prestige you gain a custom class. When you prestige the 10th time you will be able to create 10 custom classes.

My favorite part of the game is Nazi Zombies. This is an added little bonus to the game. You can do 1 or 2 players offline or play with 4 friends online. The zombie level is called Nacht der Untoten. You must defend the house from the evading zombies. You earn points by killing zombies or boarding the windows back up. You then use the points to open up the rest of the house and purchase new weapons. In 1 room there is a random box which needs 950 points and it gives you one random weapon. My favorite weapon to get is the ray gun. The point to this level is to see how many rounds you can survive. There is about a 30 second delay between waves of zombies so you can repair and reload weapons.

This is the first Call of Duty game that I have played. Playing online or offline with or against your friends is a lot of fun. The graphics look really good on both a high def tv and a regular tv. If you're going to more than 2 players on a screen then you will definitely needed a bigger tv or a projector. The only thing I would have enjoyed doing offline is being able to make custom classes. I wasn't a big fan of the shooter genre until I played this game but now it has got me hooked. Overall, this is the most fun I've had playing a shooter in a long time. If you haven't played Call of Duty: World at War it is definitely a must play game.
