Callaway Big Bertha Iron Review

Easy to Hit at a Great Price

MikeBabjak
Another year is almost here, and in keeping tradition Callaway will be bringing out a new Big Bertha iron. But for now, lets focus on the 2006 model, a great club at a better price due to the above mentioned fact!

The Big Bertha irons have changed quite a bit throughout the years, but one thing has remained the same. FORGIVENESS! They have always featured a thicker top line, larger head and weight towards its large, wide sole. These features added with their Tru-Bore technology give the Big Bertha's a world of forgiveness on off center hits. This is made possible by moving extra weight to the perimeter of the iron as well as to the sole of the club. This will make for a stable, high launch flight right off the bat! Mid to high handicap players will love the new model for 2006, and may stick with them once they see the 2008 model hit the shelves.

The Big Bertha iron got a bit of a make over the past few years. Now it looks quite attractive with a high polish head and a deep red cavity medallion. The 2006 Big Bertha irons look as good as they play. When I went out to hit them I was very pleased with how they looked and felt compared to other Bertha irons of the past. They set down nice and the UniFlex steel shaft seamed to be just the right weight for me. The first few balls I hit went high and straight, as they were designed, but the amazing part came when I tried to work the ball with a fade. I was able to do it! I could not believe my eyes when I saw this but I was able to move the ball right with this club! I hit several shots with them and was able to do anything I wanted to! Add to that and when I purposely hit a few on the heel and toe, they were still forgiving! I would suggest this iron to the mid to high handicap player who wants control, feel and good looks at a solid price. Check the web for good deals as these are now being pushed out for the re-vamped version next year.

It's always good to know that you can get a quality product cheaper if you're willing to get a slightly older model!
