Callaway Diablo Forged Irons

MikeBabjak
My final review of the Callaway Diablo line for 2010 saves the best for last. While the Diablo Forged iron has been out in Japan for a couple years as the Callaway Legacy, it's better late than never! This may be the best overall iron Callaway has released in recent years and I'll go over the best features.

What sets this club apart from the rest in the lineup is the way it is built. It is a great forged iron for the mid to low handicap player combining looks, workability and forgiveness.

The carbon steel body, which features a generous cavity is a plus, but what is really the main feature of this iron is the 455 Carpenter Steel face. The face is welded on and provides not only a great feel at impact, but also explosive distance. The ball really jumps off the face of this iron and while it has a slight metallic sound when struck, the end results will more than make up for it. You will be hard pressed to find an iron that you can hit as far while still maintaining a traditional look.

I would consider this club a game improvement iron for the better player. It features a mid size face with just a little offset. Working the ball is fairly easy with this club as is being able to hit it high or low. I really like the fact that not only can you move the ball with this club, but the amount of distance you can gain with it as well. I was able to pick up a club with this iron due to the face material as well the loft of each club being a couple of degrees stronger.

From a players standpoint this club works great to simply pick up a little more distance, from an average players point of view it should be a good stepping stone if they are looking to get into a more traditional iron in the future. I would defiantly suggest giving this club a try as Callaway has had success with this club overseas. Why it took them so long to bring it over to the United States is a mystery, but for most golfers who try this club they will be glad they did! As always, Callaway offers a lot of custom shafts and grips so get fit before you buy!

That's all for my 2010 Callaway Diablo line! I have a couple more clubs from Callaway on the way and then it's off to hit some Taylor Made clubs!

Stay tuned!
