Callaway Golf Diablo Edge Tour Fairway Wood Review

MikeBabjak
To go along with the Callaway Diablo Edge Tour Drivers, Callaway has also launched the Diablo Edge Tour Fairway Woods. Callaway has hit a home run with the Diablo line and the Tour Series has filled the need for the better player on a budget.

Similar to the drivers, the fairway woods feature a very clean club head. A shallow face and slightly smaller head fit better player's eyes and the addition of a hosel makes it look very traditional at address. The hosel also adds to the overall stability of the club head and in my opinion helps greatly with the ball flight this club produces.

The club head features Callaway's patented VFT face design to create maximum distance and a very low and rearward center of gravity for a very high and penetrating ball flight. The weight distribution with the newly added hosel is as such to make the club forgiving, but more workable for the better player.

I own the 18* model and will soon have a 15* in the bag! This is by far the best fairway wood I have ever hit. The standard stock graphite shaft while a little light, provides a great feel for the club head and matches perfectly to it. The ball flight is very high in my opinion but very flat. It takes off like a rocket and then cuts through the air without ballooning. With its shallow face, it is also a little easier to hit this club out of the rough given you mind the type of lie you have.

The Callaway Diablo Edge Tour fairway woods come in 13*, 15*, and 18*. As I mentioned, the stock shaft works great in my opinion, but as with other manufacturers, there are many custom options to choose from and I do recommend getting fit before you buy.

I would hold this club above the standard Diablo Edge even for the higher handicap player. It is much easier to get in the air with a much shallower face, and while the head is smaller, most players struggle with getting their fairway woods airborne. If you are a better player I would defiantly give this a try. For some it may go too high, but the boring trajectory produced the head/shaft combination makes this club a rocket. Check Callaway's website and that of your local golf courses for demo days to try their new line of clubs.

Stay tuned for more reviews from Callaway and many other club companies in the next couple of months!
