The X20 irons are designed for the mid handicap player. Callaway has had a lot of success with the X Series beginning with the X-12's in the late 90's. The clean look of these irons are a hit with traditionalists as these irons are not as bulky as the Big Bertha line of irons. The notch weighting in each iron positions the clubs center of gravity perfectly for each club and provides the player a little added forgiveness on off center hits. The weight taken from he cavity is also pushed back and away from the face for better launch angles and even more forgiveness. Wider soles prevent digging for those out there with a tendency to hit behind the ball. There are many custom options available for this iron, like most Callaway products, and fitting through a Callaway club fitting center takes only a half hour or so. This has been a great club in Callaways lineup and will be back in 2008 along with a few new products in the X series. Stay tuned for reviews!
The first thing I noticed when I set one down was how good they look! From 3-PW, this set looks great, like I said, a lot better than their other forgiving iron sets like the Big Bertha or Fusion. The feel of these irons were very solid, and very hot!. I tested a set with Callaways UniFlex Steel. They felt great at impact and took off high and long as they were designed. Working the ball was not too easy, but it can be done. As stated before, these are designed to go long, high and straight right out of the box, which is not always a bad ting! I would suggest this iron to the average mid handicap player who likes a clean look with a lot of game improvement features built in! If you need something a little more or less forgiving, check out my other articles on the X20 Tour, X Forged, Big Bertha and Fusion irons!
