If you were to Google 'spoof caller ID service' you would get 32,000 hits. Spoofcard comes up first. Though Spoofcard charges you $20 for an hour of Caller-ID misrepresentation, imagine the damage that could be done should someone spoof a bank headquarters phone number.
Spoofcard isn't at all hard to use. All you have to do when you use Spoofcard is, call their number, log in with your code, and dial the number you wish to spoof. In case you are a little lost, and aren't sure what spoofing is, it's faking something, like putting on a mask and pretending to be someone or something else. So when someone would make a call with Spoofcard, the number would appear as anything they wish it to be. So avoiding certain calls could become a thing of the past. This is why I say Caller-ID spoofer makes calls from banks a threat. Your guard may be dropped when you see the banks number on your phone.
Spending $20 to end up with thousands from your bank is well worth it to a potential predator. So please don't think that just because someone has to pay for the service now that it's not worth the crime. Something else to keep in mind is that this service may end up cheaper or free later on. It's just a matter of time before someone figures out how to put it into a handheld device sold at your local Best Buy store, (if it's not already out there.) It also doesn't help, that from time to time Spoofcard may offer free trails for others to test their service and earn them more sales.
The more advanced our technology becomes, the more advanced the criminals are we have to put up with, as are their crimes. We have to educate ourselves constantly in order to stay ahead of those who are willing to make us their victims. Imagine if you hadn't read this, and received one of these Spoofcard calls.
Spoofcard makes you of course agree to their terms of service in which it states you will do nothing unlawful, but regardless of how many spoofed bank calls they make before they are eventually caught, is one too many.
I do realize by mentioning this now, opens up the door to predators that didn't think of it before. I don't wish to sound like 'chicken little the sky is falling' but the more people that are made aware of this, the fewer victims there are to fall for the bank and other types of threats. I'd like to think Spoofcard has all legal agencies, banks, charities, and such blocked, but how many people do charity work from home?
So the question stands, why pay for Caller-ID if it isn't always correct, wouldn't it be cheaper and better to not have it at all? After all, you may just forget this article and warning.
A tip I'd like to offer is, register with the do not call registry, even with your cell phone, it's free and takes about 2 minutes to do.
