Calling for an American Revolution: Make Politicians Responsible to the People

T. Schnieders
The rest of America, and quite possibly the rest of the world, is wondering what's next for all of us. With rising fuel prices, inflated retail prices on food and goods, most Americans already are struggling to keep their household budgets in the black.

We are stuck in the middle of a war most of us don't understand why our soldiers are still there, we're also in an election year with candidates who seem to care less about America and more about personally attacking each others' political views, careers, families and faith. With both parties screaming their rally cries of change, the only change most of us can see in the near future is a downward spiral for the American economy and the average American's lifestyle and livelihood.

What's next for us, America? What is next? Do we sit idly by and watch as greedy, two-faced politicians and corporate executives continue to drive this once great nation and its people further into debt and despair, or do we stand up for our rights, stand united as the people, and say we don't want to live like this any more?

I ask, how do we stand strong as a nation? Do we refuse our right to vote for these so-called presidential candidates, or band to together and start a write in campaign for another candidate chosen by the people? I'm planning to write in on my ballot for this election, "We the people," and urging others to do the same. I'm opting for instead of one figurehead leading this country we elect a council to guide us, a panel of working class Americans of average backgrounds and with no political experience to speak of to help consider, debate, and vote on final decisions for the people. Not a Congress or House of Representatives that has long been corrupted and out of touch with the working class average wage earning taxpaying American public. This will be quite possibly the only way to bring true change to our nation's government, and restore power back to the nation's rightful leaders the people!

What's next I ask you? How can we stand against a long-corrupted system without being deemed terrorists or anarchists? We need a modern-day American Revolution, a rebellion of sorts. It's the only way to make the corporate and political powers that be take notice of the taxpayers again. We must unite for the first time in a few hundred years as a nation for the people by the people, one nation under God with liberty and justice for all. Amen!
