Cal-Maine Eggs Recalled Due to Positive Salmonella Report
Once Again Eggs Have Been Recalled Due to a Positive Salmonella Screening
Although there are no confirmed illnesses connected with Cal-Maine Foods, the egg recall stands due to the findings. Customers with the eggs that are part of this recall should not use the product. To view the complete list of eggs that were recalled view the original report by using the FDA link below.
Information concerning plant numbers and dates the eggs were produced are on the carton. All egg cartons include a Julian date, which is the actual day of the year that an egg is produced. Therefore, January 1st would be day 1, indicated as 001, and January 30th would be printed as day 030. This will be found on the carton end near the plant number where the eggs originated. The plant number is preceded by the letter P, so plant 1640 would read P1640.
Salmonella symptoms may include diarrhea, nausea, fever and abdominal pain. This can be fatal for the very young or frail, and those with impaired immune systems.
Some consumers think they can eat the recalled eggs as long as these are cooked to destroy the salmonella. This is not encouraged, and consumers are asked to return the eggs to the place of purchase.
