Cal-Organic Farms Organic Green Onions Review

I don't know about you, but when I see a beautiful bunch of organic green onions sitting, freshly misted, on a produce shelf, I make sure to pick up a bunch, even if I wasn't planning on purchasing them, and as long as I don't have a nice bunch sitting in the produce drawer in the refrigerator at home. Whenever I see Cal-Organic Farms Organic Green Onions at my local Wegmans, they always seem to be great looking green onions.

Cal-Organic Farms has been in business since 1984, or about twenty-five years. I don't know if it took them twenty-five years to get to where they're producing great looking green onions, but they sure are producing them now. Of course, lots of factors go into what a crop will look like by the time it makes it to your produce shelf, with what kind of sun and rain the year was about being first on the list by far.

Yet for Cal-Organic Farms considers taking care of the crop in a special way, no matter what the season was like, regarding how much or little sun and rain the crop received during the year, a top priority. To be organic farmers, such as Cal-Organic Farms, is to go the extra mile for the crops and the land in which they grow. Following is how they, themselves, put it:

"What does organic mean to Cal-Organic Farms? Organic refers to the way our products are grown and processed. The operating philosophy of Cal-Organic is base on a system of farming that works to maintain and replenish soil fertility without the use of synthetic and toxic chemicals. Pests and weeds are managed using earth-friendly means such as beneficial insects and mechanical controls. Cal-Organic produce is never genetically engineered or modified and is never irradiated."

If you don't know what irradiated means, the quickest way to explain it is make an analogy. Irradiation is just like it sounds-radiation going into something. Much like what happens to a cancer patient receiving radiation treatments, some crops from the field receive radiation (besides the sun's natural rays) so as to kill of microorganisms before hitting your produce shelf. It's a practice shunned by many, kept quiet by others, and fully accepted by, still, others in the produce business. Either way, Cal-Organic Farms doesn't irradiate its produce.

Cal-Organic Farms produce is certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers, or CCOF. The organic green onions, which, by the way, taste every bit as good as they look, and are #1 produce, are grown in beautiful and sunny Bakersfield, California by Cal-Organic Farms. Cal-Organic Farms packs and distributes the organic green onions, too. If you see a great looking bunch of green onions on the produce shelf where you shop, they just may turn up Cal-Organic Farms on the label.
