Calvary Song

Shirley A Mandel
This poem has a little story behind it. It was inspired by the plight of a second grade boy who got suspended from school by the principal and forced to undergo a mental evaluation because he drew a picture of Jesus on the cross during art class. I sent the principal a copy of this poem; she could use a little sensitivity training.

Who is that man up there
on the hill?

Who is that man up there
all alone and forsaken by friends,
mocked by foes?

Who is that man up there
hanging on a center cross?

That man up there
is the one who died for my sins,
washed my wicked soul
in his own blood.

That man up there
is my Savior, my Lord.

That Man up there is God.

Oh I weep deeply
for the beauty of Him!

I love that Man up there.
