Cambridge, Maryland -- With just over two weeks away, when the third annual Dorchester-Cambridge Multi-cultural Festival will bring fun entertainment for people of all ages and cultures in the 600 block of Pine Street, festival committee members met Wednesday, April 8, at the Empowerment Center to discuss details of the event.

"This year we are going to move a little more into the younger generation as far as entertainment is concerned. We will have The Young Sluggaz, a local Hip Hop group that will be doing clean musical entertainment," said Octavene Saunders, who stressed that the festival was a family event for all ethnic cultures.

"This is alcohol and drug free family oriented entertainment. We've kept it alcohol free all of this time. That's the way we started out, and that's the way we are going to keep it," she said.

The parking lot of the Empowerment Center will be for children only, and dubbed the Kids' Zone where youngsters can enjoy games and activities.

The festival, to be emceed by the Reverend Dr. William T. Wallace, is slated to begin noon, April 25, and continue to 5pm. Brother Garrick Cook of the Cambridge Church of Christ will give an address.

There will be other musical groups, and TNT Allen Butler Productions will be on hand to DJ.

Other entertainment will include the Pleasant Day Funsters and a portrayal of Harriet Tubman by Vernetter Pinder.

Currently, there will be 10 local community vendors who will be promoting their agencies and organizations. Food and items for sale will be available.

The festival has grown over the years, and last year the event drew an estimated 350 people. Committee members are hoping to see 1,000 this year.

The event is always free and open to all people. The objective is to bridge the various cultures within Dorchester County. Dorchester County is on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"We are hoping that everyone from all of the communities will come out and participate and show their multi-cultural spirit," said Julia Davis.

There is still room for more vendors and donations for the silent auction. Those interested, or who would like more information, should call (410) 228-2250.

Those interested in attending this event may get to its location by taking US 50 into Cambridge, Maryland. Turn (right if eastbound, left if westbound) onto Cedar Street which will lead you to the 600 block of Pine Street.
