Cameron's Kitchen, Fayetteville, Georgia -- an Eaters Review
New Restaurant Opens in Fayetteville, Georgia
The owner, Randy Thomas, may strike a familiar cord with some-he played for the New York Jets, the Washington Redskins and the Miami Dolphins. Cameron's Kitchen is named after his son, Cameron, and it is definitely a family affair. Mr. Thomas, his sister and his mother can be found in the kitchen putting their personal touch on the items headed out to their guests-and his wife Teresa may greet you when you show up for lunch.
Many famous people open restaurants, but not all are successful. A restaurant must have good food to keep customers coming back. Does Cameron's Kitchen have good food? In this writer's opinion, yes. I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and grilled tilapia with yams and green beans for my meal. The fried green tomatoes were sliced thinly, the way I like them, and served with a bistro sauce that contained horseradish-yummy. When the fish arrived, it was cooked perfectly, moist and properly seasoned. The yams were very good. They have a special flavoring that to me tasted like citrus, but I couldn't pry the secret out of my server. Others in my party had the pulled pork platter and the ribs. They said they were "awesome."
Their menu includes an assortment of southern style sides, so you are not limited to the vegetable of the day. The portions were large, no one went away hungry, and the prices are very good considering the amount of food on the plate. My two-piece tilapia plate was $9.99.
Though we didn't have room for any, Cameron's Kitchen has a good selection of deserts that include banana pudding with "mama's" special banana sauce. The people at the next table ordered it and I asked them if it was good. They were so busy eating it that they just mmmm'd, widened their eyes and nodded their affirmation.
If you are a fan of southern barbeque, you will want to try Cameron's Kitchen. I was observing some other guests sitting nearby who ordered the three-meat BBQ plate. The amount of meat on the plate was incredible and none of them could finish it, but they were not leaving it behind-three to-go boxes. The food received more kudos from a couple I spoke with on my way out the door. They said they drove from Griffin to eat there because the food was that good.
The restaurant offers take-out and catering in addition to dining. So, if you are planning a Super Bowl Party or other get together, you may want to consider ordering some of their wings that come in six different flavors.
In Cameron's renovation they added a party room that will seat about twenty people and a patio that I'm looking forward to sitting on come the first warm spring night. Oh, I gave it away-I'll definitely be going back. Cameron's Kitchen gets a thumbs up for their food and another for the welcoming atmosphere. I'll see you there!

Post a CommentIt would seem that you are not alone in your assessment of the service. I have heard from a number of people that, while the food is as you said and I experienced excellent, the service has fallen short of expectations since the initial opening. One can only guess at the cause. Next time you go in, ask to speak with the manager and let them know about your experience. Don’t convey this information to the floor staff, it may never find the management's ears. It is a shame that only half of the experience is a good one. It is so important from a customer service perspective to make every customer’s visit satisfying. You may be going back, but others with the same experience may not and that could spell failure.
My husband and I ate there for the first time this weekend. The food is excellent. However, the service could use some improvement. We had the seafood buffet and it took way too long for someone to clear the dirty plates off of our table. Also, we were never asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks. I'm not sure if refills were included in the buffet price of $17.99 but we certainly should have been asked either way. Also, having a dessert in the buffet would be nice. The good thing is the food is really good and FRESH! I will go back as I want to support them. This place is very close to my home and I love that it's a family run business. Please give a little better service as you will have a customer for a very long time!
