Camping Dinner Recipes for Chicken

The use of poultry always makes for a memorable camp dinner and there are any number of camping dinner recipes for chicken that can satisfy the hunger and tastes of an entire group quite well in the outdoors. As with any fresh meat that is taken on an outdoor adventure chicken must be thoroughly cooked and handled with due diligence to prevent bacterial growth and associated illnesses. A good rule of thumb when using camping dinner recipes for chicken is to error on the side of caution - chicken that is overdone is less troublesome than chicken that is undercooked. It is also imperative when using camping dinner recipes for chicken to make certain that utensils and surfaces where chicken was prepared are disinfected properly both before and after use for the sake of good camping hygiene.

One of the best camping dinner recipes for chicken is to simply take a whole chicken and stuff it with a basic but tasty stuffing. In a large skillet over a camp fire place a few teaspoons of cooking oil and a half cup each of diced celery and diced onion, stirring frequently until tender. Add to the skillet 6 or 7 slices of bread that have been torn into small pieces, and season with salt, pepper, garlic salt, rosemary and thyme. Stir the mixture in the skillet until the bread has absorbed all of the liquid and the seasonings, and the celery and onion are equally disbursed. Next, take a whole chicken that has been cleaned and stuff the abdominal cavity tightly with your stuffing and wrap the chicken in several layers of aluminum foil. Place this onto a cooking grate over a medium camp fire and cook for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, turning the chicken every ten minutes of so. When finished this can be served with a side of potatoes or rice and is a very easy camping dinner recipe for chicken.

Another fantastic camping dinner recipe for chicken is to make a hearty chicken stew. Cook a 2 pound bag of egg noodles in a large pot, then drain the noodles when done and set them aside. Take 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of chicken that has been cut into small pieces and place it into a pot containing 3 to 4 quarts of water. Add salt, pepper, and other seasonings of your choice, and then add 1 cup each of diced onion, potato, celery and carrots. Cover the pot and let this cook over a moderate heat for about 1 1/2 hours or until the carrots are tender. When these ingredients are done place your egg noodles into the cooking pot and add a can of chicken flavored soup broth or four chicken flavored bullion cubes, replace the lid and let the ingredients simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. This is a wonderful camping dinner recipe for chicken that can be served with bread or a handful of crackers to make a great meal.
