Those that thrive on summer, like myself, would say that no summer is complete without going camping. Not only does camping let you enjoy the great outdoors, but camping also allows you to reconnect with family and friends. If done right anyway.
One of the great things about camping is the flexibility. The college minded tend to get away with large groups of friends. These are usually spent sitting around the campfire with beverages (alcoholic or otherwise, depending on your own personal taste) and just having a good time. There are no worries while camping aside from the basics: eating, sleeping and having a good time.
Family camping can be a bit trickier. Some campgrounds are so overrun with the college minded type listed above that liquor bans need to be instituted during higher volume times. For the most part, however, those that do decide to imbibe while camping are respectful of fellow campers. Only a minority tend to ruin the fun for others.
Family camping is also difficult because of the options available. Some campgrounds, mostly RV parks, have waterpark attractions like waterslides. These campgrounds can be great fun for all ages, as they usually organize community events as well with a focus on a family experience. The problems from this type of camping comes in cost. For a weekend stay, RV parks tend to cost much more due to the extra ammenities they provide.
One of the more overlooked aspects of camping is tourism. A lot of people would like to visit neighboring areas, but lack the money to pay for a hotel and meals. With camping, all you need is a tent, a tank of gas and anything you would like to eat. This amounts to only a fraction of the cost, and you can still enjoy all the benefits of nearby cities.
Campers should always be aware of the rules and regulations of the areas they would like to camp. Problems with wildlife can vary from region to region, and some areas might have stricter policies on things like alcohol or the types of wood you are allowed to use.
For something that is so simple to do, camping is easily the most fun that can be had in the summer. The easy access to other great summer activities like beaches and campfires makes it a can't miss. Anyone who does not bother to camp at least once a year is missing out.
