Campo Minutemen - Taking on the Hotbutton Issue of Illegal Immigration

"Doing for Our Country What the Government Won't."

Andrew Berry
"Doing for our country what the government won't" is the Campo Minutemen Project's slogan. But who are they, and what do they do that our government wont do?

According to the Campo Minutemen Project website, these individuals are:

"The Campo Minutemen are a group of men and women who feel it is their patriotic duty to protect our Homeland from the invasion of illegal aliens flooding through it's borders. We hold this responsibility not only to our Country and ourselves but to those who have come before us and to those who will come after.

We are proud Americans who will not sit idle while our Government sells us out, giving OUR Country away to foreign nationals, many with seditious intent. Although our Government is infected with greed and our fellow countrymen apathetic, we stand watch over our Country with pride." (Campo Minutemen website).

Obviously there has been much controversy lately over what the United States should do about it's immigration problems. Currently there are over 12 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States. With so many undocumented people in the United States there are tons of unknown dangers, like the planned attack on Fort Dix for example. Also, due to the fact that these people are not paying any form of regular housing taxes, or federal taxes while working off the books, they are leeching legal citizens' tax money which we rightfully work for. And the fact that these illegal immigrants came to the United States is also a widely debated subject on the matter as well, which, lawfully, rightfully titles them criminals.

What the Campo Minutemen basically do is watch the Mexican border, and ensure that no illegal immigrants are crossing illegally, or trying to smuggle illegal drugs into the country. According to the Minutemen website, the once high traffic of drugs being carried across the border has been decreased to a mere "trickle" due to dedicated members of the Campo Minutemen.

Not everyone thinks what the Campo Minutemen are doing is right at all, and should leave the job to the professional border control. But with so many illegal immigrants, and many coming from Mexico, I believe that the border patrol can handle such a large amount of people crossing at the same time.

The Campo Minutemen Project is a non-profit organization, but they do take donations. Please note that since they are a non-profit organization, that these are regular legal United States citizens watching the borders, not a government run organization.

These Campo Minutemen members also have set up marches against illegal immigrants. To see a video of the Minutemen doing a march, click the link located below:

Is what these Minutemen are doing right, morally and lawfully? That is preference upon beliefs, and for you to decide for yourself. But take into consideration the 12+ million people here that are undocumented. If they were to commit a crime and get away, chances of finding them are slim to none, unless someone clearly sees their face. We have no history documented of them, no financial statistics, nor a mailing address.

If you wish to join, or send mail the the Minutemen, their address is located on their website, which is http://www.campominutemen.com/.
