Campsite Cooking Tips

One of the best activities you can do while camping is cook around a fireplace. Since men discovered fire for the first time, we have used it to do all kinds of things, but cooking is still one of the best uses we can give it. Unfortunately, cooking regularly in an open fire is an experience we don't have any more. Civilization brought with it kitchens with gas or electric stoves, so having a fireplace at home is no longer an option.

Camp meals often include raw foods, cold meat, bread, or an occasional fruit, and the classical sandwiches. Enjoying a hot meal at a campsite shouldn't be that difficult. Most people avoid it because it can be cumbersome to carry everything to the campsite, start a fire, and when you are done, having to clean everything up and pick up your gear, but things should not be like that.

The secret is to plan ahead to make your outdoor cooking experience a pleasant one. You have to prepare your foods and equipment and have them ready when you need to cook. Your prepared meals must fit in a cooler; this way everything will be in just one place and you won't be making a mess.

Bring a pan to your campsite. This way you can make a hot breakfast in the morning. A couple of fried eggs with a pair of hot sausages are a great way to start your day, and it will give you energy to go hiking and exploring. You can also make your hamburgers and hot dogs at home the way you want them. Then just wrap them in aluminum foil and they will be ready to be heated your grilled over a fireplace. You can also do this with baked potatoes; they are delicious and you only need fire and aluminum foil to cook them.

It is a good idea to bring plenty of snacks when you're camping. Outdoor activities burn many calories, so you will be hungry very often. Having snacks handy will keep your stomach happy all the time. Granola or cereal bars, trail mix, or some beef jerky are snacks you could have with you that are good for your body and will keep your energy level through the day.

Let's not forget about drinks. You must have water available at all times, but sometimes people want something else with their meals. It is a good idea to bring different kinds of drinks such as juice, or sodas. Bottled soda and juices will make distribution easy, just be sure you pick up the empty cans and bottles before you leave.
