Cam'ron Crime Pays Early Album Review

Does the Diplomats Leader Return to Form on Crime Pays?

The Reviewer
Cam'ron is one of the most colorful characters in all of rap music. He has had numerous hit singles and created the hip-hop conglomerate The Diplomats. Now without fellow Diplomat members Jim Jones and Juelz Santana by his side, can the Harlem native succeed? After a several year hiatus Cam'ron is back with his latest album Crime Pays? Does the former Diplomats leader deliver?

The first single off of Crime Pays is (I Hate) My Job. The song is catchy and shows that Cam'ron hasn't lost his gift for storytelling. The song works well as most people have hated their job at one point or another.

The second single is the controversial Get It In Ohio. The song talks about Cam'ron's journey hustling throughout the Midwest. The song is definitely not what you expect from a commercial single but it feeds the hunger of all his Diplomat fans.

Cookies N Apple Juice features Byrd Lady and Skitzo. The song recalls Cam'ron's early fast rhyme style throughout the track compared to his laidback current style.

Spend The Night is one of the more commercial tracks on the album. The song is fairly catchy and features solid production over a strong chorus.

Got It For Cheap is definitely vintage Cam'ron. The song features a very energetic beat and Cam'ron rises to the occasion with a solid flow and strong verses.

Cookin Up will definitely appeal to Cam'ron's hardcore fanbase. The song features ominous production over Cam's strong verses.

Who is one of the strongest tracks off of Crime Pays. The song works well with Cam's laid back flow over a chant inspired beat.

Never Ever is another fairly commercial track. The production is minimalist and works well when paired with Cam's verses and ad-libs.

Bottom Of The is one of the mellower tracks on the album which is strictly aimed for the female audience. However there are enough punch lines found on the track to keep the male audience glued to the song.

You Know What's Up features Co and Sky Lyn. The track is fairly solid. The highpoint of the song is definitely the production which is much different than anything else found on the album.

On Crime Pays you definitely get your money's worth; the album features 23 songs. Cam'ron is definitely back to form after his long hiatus and delivers strong verses throughout the album. Overall Crime Pays gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Cam'ron make sure you pick up Crime Pays when it is available in stores May 12th.
