Can Brett Favre's Image Be Restored?

Recently it was reported that Brett Favre finally decided that he had had enough of the NFL and announced his retirement.

Of course we've heard this story before.

But just in case it's true this time, can Brett Favre's image be restored among the football faithful.

True Brett Favre fans will have no trouble forgiving their football hero for his numerous previous retirement announcements but that sentiment may be a little harder to come by in the general football world.

Fans are particular about how their favorite players act and react to different situations. There is no doubt that Favre has suffered some damage to his iron man image and his admirable football resume.

In the last three years or so, Favre has shown himself to be somewhat unsure of what he wanted to do and at some points appeared to just be confused.

Before finally leaving the Green Bay Packers in 2008, Favre made several conflicting statements concerning what the relationship was between himself and the Packers. The organization had signed and proclaimed Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback while Brett Favre was saying he wanted to return to the Packers but not as a backup.

Brett Favre had announced his retirement in March of 2008 but by July of the same year he was reported to be in contact with the Packers about returning to play another season.

Rumors were afloat almost up until training camp before Favre made his break with the team and signed on with the New York Jets.

After the 2008 campaign with the Jets Brett Favre informed the organization that he was retiring in february of 2009 but by May of the same year he asked for a release from the Jets reserve/retired list which was interpreted as an announcement that he was going to attempt to play once again.

Once again, rumors were floating about that Favre was considering playing for several teams including his old NFC Central rivals the Minnesota Vikings.

The rumormill continued up until mid July when Favre announced that he would not be playing this season and he was retiring for good this time.

Brett Favre's behavior over the last several years has made him a target of speculation and some unkind digs about his sanity.

Brett Favre has always been a player's player. Manning up when things were tough, playing injured and enduring some wicked hits in the process. He always managed to come out on top though and we can only hope that he will do the same with his image.

Brett Favre is a shoe in to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame. His playing reputation is impeccable and this writer hopes in the end, his image will be the same.
