The Stare
If you meet a new cat for the first time, you will sometimes notice that the cat will just stop in its tracks and just stare at you. The cat will be trying to work out who you are, why you are in its territory and many other reasons. But if the cat then approaches you and continues to stare at you without moving away, the cat will be able to sense how you feel about cats in general. If you then return the cat's stare and try to make contact with the cat, the cat is likely to respond well to your efforts.
Approach
People who are either afraid of cats or who do not like them will give themselves away if a cat approaches them. Rather than shy away from such people, cats often approach people who are afraid of them or who dislike them, but without making any obvious attempts to be stroked or made a fuss of. Cats that come up against people who are not favourably disposed towards them will often just sniff people and keep their distance. However, cats that are aware that you are a cat lover will approach you with a different sort of attitude. Cats are more likely to rub up against your legs and encourage you to stroke their head, chin and their back. They will also purr once you start to make a fuss of them.
Following
Cats like to follow their owners from room to room, even if the owner is just changing a pair of shoes. But a cat who is a stranger to you will only follow you if it feels it has good reason to. It is a sign that a cat is comfortable in your company if it proceeds to follow you. So if all you have done is simply called the cat and it starts to follow you, that is further evidence that the cat is aware that you are a cat lover. It takes a lot of trust for some cats to follow strangers, but if they sense that you are a cat lover, they will feel more inclined to follow you. Your tone of voice, attitude and other factors may explain why some cats are willing to follow complete strangers.
Cats are very sensitive to the reactions they receive from humans. If a person obviously dislikes cats, they will be able to sense that and they will avoid showing any obvious displays of affection. But cat lovers are often more likely to receive lots of unsolicited affection from cats who can tell who is a friendly cat lover.

Post a CommentHey, I recently had my two cats die. Now I have two stray cats at my university following me around. One has become my buddy and always follows me. The other I found tonight, or rather, she found me. I was standing on a balcony and then heard a loud constant meow. I looked down and saw a beautiful calico looking up at me and starting to make its way toward me. Right away the cat began to jump to touch my hand and roll over on the concrete. It's cool to be making so many friends at college ;).
i love cats!! this is a helpful atricle because it fed my curiousity. at my friend's home, [who is a dog lover] her cat is always giving her dirty looks and avoiding her. but whehn i, an obvious cat lover, came she started bumping up against by legs and purring loudly.
awesome article my whole family loves cats even when my cat simon pushes my milk off my dresser!
Cats are great observers and have awesome sensory attributes! Terrific article!
Great article. From what I understand, cats will come over to a person who doesn't like them just to torture them a bit :-) Cats are sooooo smart.
I've tested out these theories on cats. One of my brothers really dislikes cats, but my cat would still approach him and stare at him every time he came over!

Great article. Our cats tend to follow us everywhere too. :) I think they can definitely tell if you are a cat person or not.

I got a cat for my daughter and I am not a cat lover. The darn thing loved me and I eventually got use to it.
