Can This Celebrity Be a Rap Star?

MTV is Testing Celeberties to See

Mary Lynn
The other night I was flipping through the T.V. channels and came to MTV and saw Sebastian Bach trying to rap and noticed it was a reality show called Celebrity Rap Superstar. If you are not familiar with the show it airs Thursdays at 10pm Eastern time on MTV. It is like a bad knock off of American Idol, Simon Fuller would cringe. It's premise is to get eight Celebrities together that has no rapping background and give them a rapper mentor to help them learn the lyrics and basics of how to deliver a verse with the proper flow and be judged by the likes of DMC (of rap mega Run-DMC), DaBrat, and Radio personality Big Boy. In true reality show fashion, each week the audience gets to vote by phone on their favorite rapper and one future rap star will be dismissed and sent a packin'. After all of the embarrassment that the celebrities are going to face, the prize for the top rapper wanna-be is just simply "street cred". The cast come from all over the celebrity world and it is interesting who stepped up to the plate to try their chance at the mic.

The first star that I think could really try to go in and maybe lay down some true rap lyrics on a real album is Shar Jackson. She is known for her roles on Moesha, Girlfriend, The Parkers, and The Ex Wives Club. If you still don't know who she is, she is the mother of Britney Spears ex-stepchildren. During the show's progression she still remains a favorite for the judges and the audience. Shar was given MC Lyte as her mentor through her rap journey. Mc Lyte is a hip-hop Mogul that had her first hit back in 1988 and has lots of experience to lend to Shar, every week I see her trying to pull the emotional side of Shar out to improve her delivery of the rhymes for that week. I think that they are the duo to beat on the show.

Sebastian Bach who is known for being in the Heavy Metal band "Skid Row" back in the 1980s. He also has done some work on Broadway. He was given Kurupt as a mentor, who in the past has been linked to many defining rap albums, such as Dr Dre's "The Chronic" and many more like it. Every week it shows that Kurupt has his work cut out for him. Sebestian's voice is to "white boy" and "rock screaming" sounding to make a rap sound like a rap. He is one of the stars that leave you to say "What were they thinking when they put Sebastian on the show?"

Kendra Wilkinson's claim to fame is that she is one of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends and is seen on the E channels "Girls Next Door" reality bit showing how she and two other women share him as a boyfriend and spend his money. This Hip-Hop lovin' rapper wanna-be got Too Short as a mentor, who has been a rapper since the early 1980s. His first album got him recognition in the rap world. Kendra's only thing that is keeping her on the show is her booty shaking that she does to compensate for her lack of rapping skills. Hopefully they will soon send her back to her mansion on the hill.

Jason Wahler from the show "The Hills" is stinking up the show with his stiff moves and forgotten lyrics. Even with the help of his mentor Bubba Sparks he can't even do a good fake out. If I was Bubba Sparks I would want to come out in disguise so that no one knew that I had anything to do with that going on the airwaves. Bubba Sparks is famous for his debut album "Dark Days, Dark Nights" that was released in 2001 and the fact that he is one of the very few white rappers that has found success in the rap world. I would say that he is the next to get the boot hopefully because hearing him try to rap is like a root canal gone bad.

Countess Vaughn who you know from "Moesha" and "The Parkers" has a beautiful R& B voice and doesn't do to bad on rapping for fun. Her mentor Warren G helps her put her spin on her rhyme for the week and it so far has not been too bad. Warren G's big hit was "regulate" in 1994 after he assisted in the soundtrack for the movie "Poetic Justice". He is the brother of Dr Dre and grew up with Snoop Dogg. Countess may give Shar a run for the "street creds". She is also one of the crowd favorites.

Perez Hilton, who is a self proclaimed king of the internet celebrity gossip world, is unfortunately the best of the worst that is left to torture our listening ears. His mentor is the "Wild Thing" rapper from 1989 Tone Loc. Tone Loc is obviously trying to make the best of his situation on the show. Who knows, Perez might surprise us next week and bring down the house,...right!

Efren Ramirez finally got sent home this week. He is known for his role in "Napoleon Dynomite". I honestly don't know who was worse Efren or Jason, but hopefully now that Efren is gone Jason will follow. Efren says that for a hobby he Djs hip hop music, I think he needs to stick to the DJ gig. His poor mentor Bizarre is going to need to take a vacation after mentoring this one. Bizarre is better known for being part of the rap group "D12" with Eminem. Thank god Efren's time has come and gone.

The first to be kicked off is Jamal Anderson who was a running back for the Atlanta Falcons and won NFC MVP in 1998. His mentor Redman is famed for his 1992 release "Whut? Thee Album". Jamal was kind of painful to hear and I see I wasn't the only one that thought that since he was the first to leave.

My predictions for the next to get axed on the show is either Perez or Kendra. Although, you know it can go either way I think Kendra should be ready to pack and leave.Unfortunately , fans vote on who they like as a celebrity and not solely on skills so we might see some more ear wrenching performances. Let's all ban together and get rid of the ones that can't spit a rap worth listening too.
