Can You Color UGG Boots? Here's How Using the Popular Product RIT

Make Those Boots New

Angel Vee
Can you color UGG boots? Almost anything today can be colored and that goes for boots as well. Here your paying over $100 dollars for a pair of sheepskin boots, and 6 months later the colors looks faded now what?

Being a professional beautician and a color expert I enjoy creating colors, mixing colors, and trying out new experiments. This does not just involve hair, I enjoy coloring fabrics as well. A few years back I was introduced to the product RIT, and this became a very useful item. I even went as far as coloring a white blazer purple in order to create The Joker's jacket for Halloween, which can be read here .

With this being said, why not dye your UGG boots with RIT? RIT can be used on cotton, rayon, silk, so why not suede? The only problem here though is finding that perfect color to match the UGG boots. Colors like chestnut, black, chocolate, grey, sand, denim, pink and even frosty mint. Well have no fear RIT comes in 500 different colors to choose from, and you can match the color perfectly.

Now my UGGS didn't need a coloring yet, so what I did was color another pair of sand suede boots extremely similar to UGGS with the sheepskin and all to see what would happen. The boots came out beautiful. Here's what I did.

You will need 1 box of RIT (color of choice)

Gloves

Warm water

1/2 cup of salt

Time and patience

You can use 2 boxes of dye if your using a dark color choice such as black or purple, but for the lighter shades I only recommend one box.

Fill up the tub half way with warm water. Then drop the RIT in. Place gloves on and stir up the water a little to make sure the dye dissolves right.

Add your salt and stir again.

Tip: Using a spray water bottle spray down your boots, make sure to saturate them quite well. After the boots are wet insert them into the tub. Stir the boots around for 5 minutes to make sure the dye will be evenly on all sides and angles.

Allow the boots to soak for at least 1 hour. After an hour you can take one of the boots out of the water, dry with a towel to check the color. If it's not dark enough yet, spray the boot again with water and throw back into the tub for another 30 minutes. Repeat until satisfied.

When color has been achieved wrap them up in a towel to dry them. Then place them somewhere to air dry. DO NOT place into dryer that can shrink the shape of them.

I would have never thought of this either. Good idea because the salt ruins them!
