Can Cookies Make You Thinner? A Look at the Cookie Diet and What Worked for a Real Mom

T.C.
I have been working on regaining my figure for over a year now. While I do not have weight to lose, I have been looking for an approach to help get me to pre-baby form. Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet has been a highly searched topic recently, so I was curious...does it work? The diet is based on eating specially formulated cookies in order to decrease hunger. According to Dr. Seigal, hunger is the number one factor that prevents diets from working. The cookies are baked by the good doctor himself, and have been helping his patients reach their weight loss goal since the 1970's. The Cookie Diet directs users to eat the cookies in place of other snacks, and get this...they do not claim that they are delicious! Well, at least they are upfront. I suppose that the proteins that are combined into the cookies for the Cookie Diet have a rather bland taste.

I have not tried the Cookie Diet, but I have tried others. Even before I had my daughter, I was disappointed with my figure. In high school I was thin and muscular from the activities I participated in. I went to college, gained the freshman fifteen and struggled since then to get back to how I was. I know I will probably never look like I did in high school, but I sure would like to.

In college I attended Weight Watchers meetings with a friend who was overweight. I was not, and I constantly felt uncomfortable going because of the looks that I would get from the women weighing me in. I tried to just stick to the plan without the meetings, but like they say, it is always easier if you have the group support. I am still implementing some of the aspects in my life today, I use some of the recipes because I want my family to be healthy, but I don't track what I eat or weigh myself all the time.

I also tried using Slim Fast shakes when I began working more. I would replace either breakfast or my daily soda with one. But I never could acquire a taste for them. Once I quit my job in a restaurant, I did notice an improvement in my image. I didn't realize it, but always eating restaurant food and eating at 11 pm after I was through working was terrible for my body.

The one thing that I have been able to stick to is due to my baby. She is now eating table food, and wants to eat what I have. I don't want her to have soda, chips, cookies and other "bad foods", so I no longer buy them. I buy fruit, yogurt, cheese, and other "good for you" snacks so that she will develop healthy eating habits. No I am not a mean mom, I let her have fun foods like ice cream, cake, and cookies once in a while and I share fun foods with her when we do buy them. Another aspect of motherhood that is great is constantly running around after her. It is the best exercise for me, and lifting her and playing with her have really helped to tone some of my muscles. So I guess the solution can be credited to part of my problem. I thought that I would never find something that I could work into my busy life to help me reshape my figure, but I did and now I really enjoy putting on my swim suit and taking her to the pool!
