Can Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo Win the Big Game?

Jerry Jones Released Owens to Help Romo; Maybe His QB is the Real Problem

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off another disappointing season. Dallas was supposed to be a playoff team, a Super Bowl contender. While injuries hampered the Cowboys 2008 season, with Tony Romo, Felix Jones, and Marion Barber missing time because of injuries, the Cowboys still had a chance to make the playoffs. By the end of the season, Romo and company had once again failed to get the job done and the Dallas Cowboys missed the postseason.

Tony Romo was especially awful at the end of the season. During the final four games of the season, when the Cowboys had the opportunity to play their way into the playoffs, Romo threw more interceptions, then touchdowns (6,5). In three of the final four games Romo's QB rating was 66.2 or below, according to CNNsi.com.

Romo's playoff history is less then impressive. We all remember the botched hold in the Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks playoff game. The Cowboys lost that game 20-21. In the 2007 playoffs, Romo finished the game against the Giants with a 64.7 QB rating. This wasn't the first time Romo had struggled in important games. Tony Romo is young and he's proven he can be a successful NFL quarterback, but when I hear Jerry Jones say he released a productive wide receiver to make the offense more Romo-friendly, I laugh.

Terrell Owens was a vocal guy who had the tendency to create a lot of drama, but he was also a good receiver, who wanted the ball, because he wanted to help his team win. With Owens gone, Romo's favorite target, Jason Witten will have trouble getting open. Roy Williams is the new #1 receiver in big D and I hope he's ready for the double coverage. Until the younger receivers can prove themselves, Witten and Williams will get a lot of attention from opposing defenses. Terrell Owens wasn't the Cowboys problem. Creating an offensive game plan that incorporated all the teams weapons, was the problem.

You had two talented receivers in Owens and Williams, who weren't getting the ball. You had an offense that couldn't move down the field. I don't see how getting rid of a proven receiver improves that situation. A full year with Owens and Williams could've been very productive for the Cowboys.

If the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs this year, who will Jerry Jones blame? If Tony Romo continues to struggle, whose fault will it be? I guess we can always blame Jessica Simpson.
