Can Derma Rolling Vanish Stretch Marks for Good?

The Derma Roller is Supposed to Renew Your Skin

Melissa B
If you have had a baby, gained a lot of weight, or had a rapid growth in your body you probably have battled the dreaded stretch marks. Stretch marks are very common, and can appear on the arms, breast, stomach, hips, legs and just about anywhere you have skin. If you have them, you know you have tried just about everything to get rid of your stretch marks; but have you tried Derma Rolling?

What Exactly is Derma Rolling?

The Derma Roller, is actually a needling (yes as in tiny needles) device that you roll over areas of your body to treat everything from balding and acne to, yes, stretch marks. But it is important to know that the Derma Roller comes in several needle lengths to get the desired result. For example you would never want to use the same Derma Roller you use on your stretch marks, on your face! It would be entirely too large and painful! Your face may only use a .50 mm while stretch marks require a 1.5mm needle.

How To Derma Roll for Stretch Marks

When using a Derma Roller for stretch marks, you will first need to know how to properly use this tool. As a matter of fact, you will first need to locate one! Don't worry finding a Derma Roller is actually pretty easy, as long as your familiar with buying this online. The Scientia Derma Roller is actually the most used, most recognized form of the needling roller. If you feel safe buying from the leader in Derma Rolling, you would most likely be purchasing it from Scientia. They are not extremely expensive, but for around $50.00 to $100.00 you could own your own Derma Roller. However, there is a cheaper way to, and we can discuss that later.

Once you get this roller in your possession, you may be a little freaked out. There are tons of tiny poking needles all over the roller (thus the name micro needling) and you are expected to roll it all over the area to be treated, which can be sensitive areas, like the inner thighs or behind the knees (ouch!)

You roll the Derma Roller on your area in different directions, first up and down then side to side and last diagonally in each direction. If you apply very light pressure, this can be done on a regular (daily or weekly) basis. If you apply medium to hard pressure it is wise and recommenced to only do one treatment a month, to allow skin to full heal. It is also recommended that you stay away from sunlight during this time (or at least keep the treated area out of the sunlight) and that if using for stretch marks you regularly apply stretch mark cream to the area both immediately after treatment and the days in between treatments.

Cheaper Derma Rollers?

As with much of the products we can buy, there are always cheaper versions out there. Many of these will be found on eBay! Buy from a trusted seller with a great rating. You can expect to find many as cheap as $15.00! It may be worth the time to view forums to see which brand users are using as well. Not everybody uses the most expensive one and you will notice they get the same results! Inspect the needles to be sure that none of them are bent or defective before using on your skin, and replace them as soon as they begin to dull. regardless of the Derma Roller you purchase be sure to sterilize it after each and every use and keep it in it's protective case. Also be sure to sterilize the skin before treating an area, and your hands as well.

You can find a wealth of information, REAL testimonials and actual user feedback on this forum (Derma rolling For Stretchmarks) . I say REAL because MANY if not 99.9% of the testimonials and pictures you find on the web pages SELLING Derma Rollers have been nothing more than photo shopped. However, reading the forum from actual users is very helpful and will give you better examples of what to expect on your Derma Rolling journey to rid those unsightly stretch marks for good!

In my experience derma rolling CAN improve stretch marks a bit, but it is a SLOW process for which you need a lot of patience.

I have been using it for 5 months and got results of about 25%. I do feel better about my body now, though, and will continue to roll

In my blog you can find before/after photos and other tips for dermarolling.
