Do You Really Know What Low Fat Foods Contain?
Although low fat or diet foods may be low in fat, it is important to keep in mind that they are often not low in anything else. How do you think they get their great tastes? Without anything that it is bad for you, chances are that you would not even want to eat fat free or low fat foods. You should always read the ingredients on the back of the box before you decide to commit to eating a certain low fat or diet food. They are often high in sugar (also called high fructose corn syrup), sodium, carbohydrates, and artificial sweeteners. While fat free or low fat foods may be lower in fat, they are often compromised of other things which are unhealthy for your body.
Could You Be Overeating Low Fat Foods?
There are a lot of people out there who believe that since low fat or fat free foods do not contain the same amount of fat that regular foods do, they can eat double... or even triple. A perfect example is diet soda. Many people think that since they are drinking Diet Coke rather than regular Coke, they can drink two cans instead of one. In reality, this is worse than drinking a regular Coke to begin with. In some cases, you might not even be eating more than you regularly would intentionally. You may have it ingrained in your mind that the food which you are eating is a lot less fattening than the regular food. So, snacking on it several times a day does not seem like such a big deal. You do not feel as much guilt as you would if you were eating the non-fat free foods several times a day. Whether you do it intentionally or unintentionally, overeating low fat or fat free foods is often done.
How Should You Treat Low Fat Foods?
It is best to treat low fat or fat free foods the same way that you would any regular foods that are not low in fat or fat free. If this is the case, of course, you may not even want to buy foods which are low in fat. The main key is to only eat any food in moderation. Just because something claims to be low in fat or fat free does not necessarily mean that it is good for you. You really cannot eat anything except for healthy fruits and vegetables as much as you want to. Moderation is the main key to weight loss and most people do not moderate the amount of low fat or fat free foods that they eat.
