One of the most painful things a person can have is gout. Unless you have had it you can not realize just how painful it is. In this article we will look at if gout can be cured and what can you do to deal with gout when you get it.

First of all there is no "cure" for gout because gout is not a disease as many people believe. Gout is simply a condition that results from the build up of excess uric acid in the body. Now before you stop reading, the good news is there are treatments that can keep it under control and have you living a gout free life.

Here are 3 things that you can personally do to make sure you are reducing the odds of developing gout.

1. Watch what you eat. We all hear so much about diet that many times we do not pay attention. With gout you really do need to know what can cause it and avoid eating those things. Some of the key foods you want to avoid are red meat, liver, alcohol, and shell fish. There could be other foods giving you gout. Pay close attention to what you have eaten prior to getting it and try and avoid those food in the future.

2. Many people report excellent results in treating gout with natural remedies. You may be able to find a natural remedy on the internet to help you treat your gout. Google search the words "treat gout" and read about what others are doing. There are way to many different natural remedies to list here, but you will have to find one that works for you. Once you get it treated then it will be time to take the steps necessary to prevent it from coming back.

3. Finally be sure and visit your physician. You need to talk to them about your options for treatment of your gout. There is medicine you can take to get rid of it once you do have it.

If they prescribe one, there is medicine you can take on a daily basis to help prevent it in the future as well. This is not an invitation to go back to eating what causes your gout in the first place, but it will allow you to indulge yourself once in a while.

In summary there is not a gout "cure". However, you can treat it and once you get it under control you can prevent it. Many times it will be up to you to watch what you eat and drink. Once you know what is causing your gout you can deal with that.
