And, of course, there's no more common (and cool) peripheral than Apple's iPod, so it's worth finding out whether an iPod will work on a given OS.
Here's a look at how the iPod's compatibility will be with the new Windows 7 operating system.
Windows Vista
One of Microsoft's big claims with the Windows 7 OS is that any hardware that works with Vista should work effortlessly on 7. In addition, they're including compatibility for a host of new devices, though ultimately it's up to the hardware manufacturers to figure out how to make their hardware work with the operating system. Fortunately, the Apple iPod, iPhone, and other products worked well with Vista with a few caveats--some users noticed that it could become difficult to eject an iPod in Vista, and the various security safeguards put into place by Vista could occasionally make it difficult for computers to interface with iPods.
Windows 7 improves on the problems by lessening the required user input for these security safeguards, which should also improve the safe disconnect issue. There should be no problem for users who want to use an Apple iPod with Windows 7, even if you use other operating systems, including earlier versions of Windows and the Mac OS, to load songs and other data onto your iPod.
iTunes
It's still necessary to install iTunes, WinAmp, or other music software designed to work well with the iPod in order to use it on any computer and operating system. iTunes loads library information onto an iPod and keeps it in a waiting state, allowing you to gradually move songs, videos, and other information onto the device, and uses its own "eject" feature to safely disconnect the iPod from your computer. Any version of iTunes designed for the Vista operating system should still work well (if not better) in Windows 7.
iPod Software Updates
It's advisable to keep your iPod's software up to date after an upgrade. Any bugs that are discovered that impede an iPod's ability to work with Windows 7 will be handled from Apple's end, not Microsoft's, so keep the iPod up to date by regularly checking for new software updates in the latest version of Apple iTunes.

Everything for the most part runs smoothly, however, when I plugged in my Ipod after reformatting it, my system crashes and the blue screen of death appears, forcing my computer to restart. So I tried using the 32 bit, same problem as the 64 bit version.. blue screen. Does anybody have a solution? please E-mail me at kevinzsanchez@yahoo.com!! Thanks!!
