Can Jon and Kate Gosselin's Marriage Be Saved

Jon and Kate Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8, have become almost daily fodder for tabloid rags and so called hard news outlets, alike. Their marital problems have bought them tremendous publicity but at what cost. Most recently Jon Gosselin's relationship with 23 year old school teacher, Deanna Hummel, has come to light. Jon maintains that the two are only friends. Whether the relationship is platonic or not isn't the most pressing issue.

Most telling is the growing distance between Jon and Kate. Kate and the children summered on Bald Head Island in North Carolina with bodyguard, Steve Neild, in tow. Jon was absent from the family vacay. It has been rumored that Kate has her sights set on Neild. In a recent edition of CelebrityCafe.com written by Rebecca Hiatt, Kate Gosselin is quoted as denying these rumors as "disgusting" and called the paparazzi "animals". According to Us Weekly, while Kate and the kiddies were taking in the sun and sand, new photographs of Jon in the company of his alleged platonic paramour, Deanna Hummel, surfaced.

So what are Jon and Kate to Do?

Get Back to Reality

Jon & Kate Plus 8 isn't just about Jon and Kate's antics. But, I would wager that that the producers chose them not only for their parenting skills but for their, now legendary, volatility. Any show worth it's salt has to have a degree of conflict to keep viewers tuning in. From a production standpoint these problems are a ratings bonanza. However, what is good for the show, doesn't appear to be what's best for the Gosselin's. Jon and Kate need to get back to the real kind of reality and not the scripted kind. Perhaps remembering the people they were before this thing took off. This is not to say that the marriage would have faired any better without them becoming reality TV darlings. But with access to plastic surgeries, 3 million dollar homes, new cars and deluxe vacations, it's easy to lose sight of what is important. That would be their eight children who didn't ask for this notoriety. There's no doubt that the children's lives have been improved significantly in terms of material items by the family's inclusion in TLC's reality lineup. But does that make up for parents who are obviously drifting apart?

Kindler, Gentler Kate

Yep Kate Gosselin wears the scarlet B because on occasion she comes across as a royal B$%#h. As a matter of fact, several people feel strongly that Kate's vitriolic tongue is, at least partly, responsible for Jon's alleged dalliances. Leopards, I'm told, can't change their spots, but perhaps Kate could try to tame her errant tongue and be - how do I say it? - nicer. This not to cast aspersions on Kate alone.

Just Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should

As a father of eight children under 9 years old, perhaps the rigors of child rearing has proven too much for Jon Gosselin. Maybe he is simply seeking respite in the arms of nubile young co-eds and fresh faced school teachers. A few words for Jon. Dude, thems the breaks. You have eight children under the age of 9 years old. If you want to run the streets with nubile young women, take your daughters to the park. Ask yourself for one minute who you owe your celebrity to. Yeah, that's right. Your eight kids. Were it not for them, Well you can work out where you'd be without them. Now that you've rode the biscuit wheels off the gravy train, don't try to find a newer model with fewer miles. Get over yourself.

Can This Marriage Be Saved

Perhaps because we see Jon and Kate Gosselin on television we ascribe to them superhuman qualities. However, when relationships go awry, for whatever reason, it is painful. How much more stressful must it be try and save a marriage with the whole world looking on and weighing in with their opinion? Of course, one could say that's the risk you run when you lay your life open for perusal. It would appear that life has become all too real for the TLC reality darlings. As it turns out, this is what reality looks like. Life is full of the unexpected. Our best laid plans are acted upon by the winds of change and the finger of fate. I've outlined, above, a few things they could try. For Jon and Kate maybe it's time to reassess some priorities and find out how they even got to this place in their lives.

Mind you, I'm just one more person weighing in with my opinion on how they can take a stab at remembering what's really important and letting the rest of the BS walk.
