Can You Lose Weight by Breathing Cleaner Air?

R. Bourne, Ph.D.
Usually we think of weight management and weight loss simply an energy balance. Basically, we think we think in terms of the number of calories we eat against the number of calories we burn. However, some researcher and scientists believe, either directly or indirectly that all calories are no equal and that it is a matter of what kind of calories you eat what determines if you lose or not weight. Many say that that calories from carbohydrates are stored as fat more easily than calories from fat or protein. So if you eat more carbohydrates you could gain weight but if you eat more of a protein you can lose weight.

Some obesity research have shown that there are more variables than just the calories. In fact, many of them have nothing to do with the food we eat. Some studies have found that animals may gain weight just by living in polluted environment. So the question that comes soon to our minds is could we lose weight by breathing cleaner air?

There are many things we do not know about obesity, weight loss, and weight management. It is a never ending process where we learn a little bit each day. For now and according to many studies it seem that living in less stressful and/or more cleaner environment seem to help manage better your weight and help in your weight loss efforts.
