Can a Maxiglide Really Straighten Natural African American Hair?

Write Right
I recently transition from putting a relaxer in my hair to natural. I love my natural locks, however once in a while I love to have my hair straight. I tried so many of the cheap brands of ceramic irons with bad results. Finally I decided to try out the expensive brands and Maxiglide was one of them. I had great results.

So how did I use the Maxiglide? Well first, I had to understand that the key to a great result is in what products I use and what technique I used to. After washing and conditioning, I section my wet hair, detangle it with a Denman brush and put my hair into braids. I did 10 braids but more braids can be done and airdryed my hair. Once my hair was dry, I undid the braid one by one and sprayed heat protectant on the length. I than proceeded to take super small section, put a very small dab of Marcel Curl Wax at the root of my hair. I used the Maxiglide at setting 5. I did three quick swipes and my hair came out straight. It looked as if I had a relaxer in my hair.

After a week I washed my hair and my natural hair was not damaged. Using the wrong product and too much heat can prevent natural hair from reverting back to its natural state once straighten. With the Maxiglide and the right products I had no problem going from natural to straight.

I also tried the Maxiglide on my sister's hair. After I washed and conditioned her hair, I saturated it with 2 parts water 1 part setting lotion because she wanted to set her hair in rollers. However, I convinced her to let me try the Maxiglide on her hair. Instead of putting rollers in her hair, I put her hair in 12 Bantu knots. After her hair was dry, I used Elasta QP Mango Butter and the Maxiglide on setting 9 on her hair. Her hair result was great. Her husband had to ask her if she had put a relaxer in her hair.

My sister loves the Maxiglide very much that she had her husband buy her one. She continues to use hers every week, while I on the other hand uses my Maxiglide every once in a while since I am trying out new ceramic irons to see how they compare to the Maxiglide.

Just purchased my Maxiglide MP. I love it! My hair has been salon silky since I purchased. I have 2c/3a hair - natural and wavy when wet, not too hard to manage. Three tips on the Maxiglide use:

    1. Purchase your Maxiglide at Bed, Bath, and Beyond - as I used the monthly BBB coupon and got it for the low, low, price of $63. Now, it didn't come with all of the fancy extras, but I saved much.

    2. Key to the flat iron process is the 'total process.' My steps -- I clarify (because I use cones daily, such as dimethicone) - condition well - detangle in eight sections starting with the ends (using a Denman of course) - treat with a leave-in (I like Nexxus Humectress Luxe) - treat with a heat protectant (I like Redken Thermal Resist) - Blow dry - and Max out with your Maxiglide!

Tip 3: Start on a low setting. The Maxiglide has a heat range of 1 - 10. Setting 5 gets my hair salon straight and the heat burst are a silkening dream.

Ok, I love my hair with or w/o the Maxiglide, but I am

I am thinking about giving my 17 year old daughter a Maxiglide. We love natural hair...I acutally have sister locks and LOVE them!!! However, my daughter has been wearing braids, flat and two strand twist for most of life, which as been easy for me, but has not taught her how to manage appreciate her hair. She is going off to college next year and dosen't know how to take care of her natural hair. We have tried perms, but perfer natural hair. I hope maxiglide can help my daughter manage, appreciate and love her natural locks...

I have been using the Maxi Glide for about 5 years and I must say that I LOVE IT and I have been going natural just about every since then. I have long black thick wavy/curly hair that is like a fro after it dries but after using the Maxi Glide I get amazing results just like a relaxer. After I finish flat ironing my hair, the length of my hair is way down my back. This is an amazing product and I suggest if everyone is wanting to buy an expensive flat iron please try the Maxi Glide it is TRULY AMAZING!!!!!!! Its really worth the money. I have had to buy one in the 5 years and I'm getting ready to buy me another because my almost teen daughters love to use on their hair as well. To keep from fighting over it with them I decided to but me another just for me :)

My hair is medium length, very thick, coarse, and kinky. It is in its natural state, but I straighten it at times.

Coconut oil and peppermint oil, tea tree oil or eucalptus oil (just 2-3 drops) and your favorite conditioner is a great deep conditioner. I leave it on for about 20 minutes. It's very manageable and feels great afterwards.

Because the minty smell will last until you wash your hair again you may need to adjust the peppermint oil to your liking.

This combination is a great scalp stimulator and will improve growth.

I'm Puerto Rican with super curly hair. Thick, long, "boing-boing", frizzy, kinky curly hair. And I looooove my MaxiGlide! IT JUST BROKE ON ME THIS MORNING, though. I had it for about 5 years though! And I'm about to buy another one. I don't know how I got by without it in the past. My hair is all frizzy right now. Looks like a tamed afro. But I'll be back to having that dead straight hair as soon as my new MaxiGlide arrives.
