What everyone in Iran should be using is the Tor Browser Bundle - one click to start up, runs off USB drive, includes Firefox, Pidgin+OTR (encrypted AIM, GChat), anonymous, not like most simple point-to-point proxies.
Tor may have a reputation as being slow or complex, all of which the browser bundle pretty much solves. It is also available in Farsi and Simplified Chinese, along with other languages.

New York Times: Police Appear More Brutal Where No Cameras Present at Iran Election Protests
Bill Kellor, Executive Director NYT reports: When no one around to report, consider Monday night in Isfahan, Iran's third largest city and five-hour drive from nearest foreign TV camera.
Large parts of the city - squares and boulevards - were scenes of smoke and flames, tear gas, stones crashing windows, bloodied heads.
Groups of a few dozen Iran election protesters merging into groups of a few hundred, converging on lines of helmeted riot police officers, chanting "Death to the dictator!"
But in Isfahan the police response seemed far tougher.
At one point, a white S.U.V. with a red light raced up behind protesters and smashed into them, running one over before racing a few blocks to protection of riot police.
Bands of Basiji, authorized plainclothes vigilantes riding motorbikes and wielding long truncheons, were let loose by the hundreds to sow fear far afield from the actual unrest. Many wore green headbands of the opposition - possibly to camouflage, or to confuse.
Millennials' Cyberwar to Free World of Oppression: Iran Election Protests
Without press coverage, police appear more brutal to Iran election protests. With this in mind, millennials' and many others work together to assist Iran election protesters. Can technology free Iran and China? This is the question as we watch and wait. It seems the Millennals' destiny to free the oppressed.
