Can I Make Money with Hubpages?

Can You make money with hubpages? Well, it depends on who you ask. The way I look at it, there are 3 camps that will happily give you a different answer....

1. The "I tried it and it didn't work for me so it won't work for you"camp- This camp is a lot like the make money with adsense camp. People try to make money with hubpages, built a few hubs (sometimes they even build 100's of them), and were mortified to see that all that hard work amounted to very little money (usually less than $100 per month)
2. The "Sure it works and by the way...I happen to be selling the perfect system for you" camp-- This camp is nothing more than marketers who are exploiting the newbies to hubpages who are hoping to earn a little. Their systems usually are too generic for a new hubber to use and typically is more of a time sink that provides very little value.
3. The "It works if you know how to make it work for you" camp- This is perhaps the smallest of the three camps because it requires a little common sense (something most people don't have enough of) and an understanding of why things make money & why they don't.

The Realities of Making money with Hubpages

The reality is that you can make money with hubpages. But the reasons why you hear so many people say you can't is that they don't understand the reasons why some people make money and others don't. Here are some quick tips for you:

1. It's a number's game- The name of the game is volume....traffic volume that is....the more traffic you have, the more clicks you get and the more money you make.
2. Focus on problem-solution keywords- What many don't realize is that usually a click happens because the visitor is thinking that they are about to solve a problem. These are the best keywords to go for...
3. Focus on low competition keywords- You won't make money if no one sees your site. And if you connect the dots, you would know that people who search for a solution to their problem will most likely not go beyond the top 10 search results. Many hubbers overreach the authority of hubpages in terms of being able to rank certain keywords and as a result, never get organic traffic. Organic traffic is the key element to making money with adsense.
4. Focus away from social traffic- On the other hand, while it may be tempting to get that twitter traffic, understand that unless the visitor is coming to your site with an intention in mind, social traffic is not worth anything other than a random click. It will likely lower your CPM and may even cause your adsense account to get smart priced.

Backlinks are important to making money with hubpages

Another thing that many hubbers don't quite get is that backlinks are equally important to moving up in the search engine listings. A lot of hubbers would rather spend their time writing than building "citations" on the internet. If this is you, then you won't be making money with hubs, at least not significant amounts of money.

A lot of times, you will find keyword sets in your analytics data that would suggest a new keyword to go after. Perhaps you are ranking for another long tail that happens to be in your content. If this is the case, you are left with two possibilities...

1. Build a new hub using that keyword...
2. Build backlinks to the hub anchoring the keyword in the text.
