Can Ohio State Buckeye's Receivers Catch on in Time for a Winning Season?

As Ohio State recovers from the scandal and enters a new college football season, one of the biggest concerns is their receivers. Most are young and do not have much experience in the college arena. However, despite the fact that the receiving line is mostly new and inexperienced, the new receiving coach is confident in his men. Receiving coach Stan Drayton told The Columbus Dispatch, "I am really impressed with the effort right now."

Drayton is optimistic, but fans are still skeptical. DeVier Posey, due to the NCAA violations related to the memorabilia scandal, is suspended for five games. He is the only Ohio State receiver with extensive experience. Then, there is Dane Sanzenbacher, who was the MVP for Ohio State in 2010. He is currently at the Chicago Bears training camp. This takes away the teams' best two receivers and for the first five games at least, all of the receivers will be those with little experience.

Corey Brown played last year as a freshman and he caught eight passes. Then, last year as a freshman, we had Chris Fields who caught three passes. As the team enters their first five games, these will be their most experienced players.

Drayton continued his optimism with his young receivers, though. He said, "youth doesn't necessarily bother him. He told reporters that he didn't care if a receiver was two-years old or 18-years old, the best player was going to play."

Looking at the other receivers for the Buckeyes, we have Verlon Reed. In high school, he was a quarterback and last season he transitioned to the receiving position. The transition was not easy for him and he certainly struggled, but it seems he has much improved his game for this season.

Next, we have T.Y. Williams. As a freshman, hanging onto the ball proved difficult for him. He has spent some extra time working on this during practice with Joey Galloway, NFL player and former Buckeye, so let's hope he has improved.

As a Clevelander, I am a loyal football fan by nature, as I have watched the Browns fall hard for years, but I still have faith. The same goes for Ohio State. The difference is, we Clevelanders could always count on Ohio State for a great game, so it is a little scary thinking we may have more than one "white-knuckle" game every week. Then, again, we sit here bleeding scarlet and gray, ready to cheer on the Buckeyes to a great season because like all true fans, we have faith.

Ohio State got off easy considering their coach was up to his eyeballs in this scandal. I hope they lose every game!
