Nothing that you have ever seen, or heard, or even felt is forgotten. Freud called it the memory trace. What it is simply is the deliberate regression into your mind's hidden storage of personal memory. The person formulating the memory tests for you must have been involved in your own life and developed a memory of your memories. Personal memory tests can also be given as secondary attention tests or as an a memory assessment test by flashing pictures of family and friends and testing your memory of names, places, times and events.
Our memory functions are the most complicated part of the human psyche. What is interesting is that our memory banks are never selective. Everything is recorded even those events that we choose to sublimate and which cause our mental angst. Some memory tips are the obvious mnemonic strategy. For some people remembering the strategy or the riddle is more complicated than remembering what the strategy is supposed to help you to remember. For example, her name is Joan. I think of a bonfire whenever I see her and can always remember her name. Sometimes these mnemonic strategies can cross the barriers between personal memory and shared memories with memories stored from reading or knowledge memory.
If you want to learn how to take a memory test, you should practice on a test that you make for yourself as if you were going to write an autobiography. On the day of the test, you should come prepared by having spent a considerable time sleeping the night before. You should practice relaxation exercises which include, at least, 15 minutes of meditation. You should feel confident because you prepared by looking at all of your photo albums and reading all of your diaries and logs of appointments and schedules. Just remember no memory is lost.
