Mike Conley Jr. is going to be one of the better point guards in the up and coming draft. To be able to fish a deal like this one would be historic. Using the term historic loosely; the idea is that it could create a dynamic team or a historically good idea gone sour. For a trade like this to happen the Blazers would have to trade off players in the likes of Zach Randolph (20 pts, 10 rbs), and the average point guard Jarrett Jack.
Both Conley and Oden flew out to Portland this week for a Nike meeting. During this meeting discussions were about keeping them as a tandem in the NBA. Being best friends, this obviously enthralled both players even though this deal could be over speculation.
To make things easier, both Oden and Conley are represented by Conley's father, Mike Conley Sr. who has lined up conversations to get a deal like this done for both of the boys. This might be a long shot deal trying to attain two lottery draft picks. A deal like this will definitely involve two teams if not three.
This kind of deal could be the next big duo in the NBA. This is comparable to the likes of John Stockton and Karl Malone, or even on a higher stage like Michael Jordan and forward Scottie Pippen. On June 28th the NBA draft will finally answer these possibilities.
This deal could be destroyed if the Blazers decide to pass over Oden and take the second assumed lottery pick in Kevin Durant, a talented 6 foot 9 inches tall with a 7 foot wingspan. The Durant versus Oden sweepstakes is the biggest hype in NBA draft in years. Portland sets in a pretty position to get either one of these talented players. The question posed is Portland able to give Oden his own personal point guard in Mike Conley Jr.?
