Can You Be Pro-Life & Pro-Choice at the Same Time?

Hannah
Most people think pro-life and pro-choice is a one or the other proposition. Let's take a look at how it is possible to be both at the same time.

Let's start out with a short description of what the average person believes is pro-life. Pro-lifers are people who believe that at all cost the baby's life is sacred. They believe the baby has rights and one of those rights is to live. Now there are slightly\y different views about the abortion question. Some believe no matter what an abortion should never be performed. While other pro-life believers believe there are extenuating circumstances such as if a woman is raped, or if it threatens the mother's life. Whether there are exceptions to the rule or not, the basis for for pro-life is the baby's right to life.

On the other hand there are pro-choice people. They basically believe that a woman has the absolute right to choose what happens to her own body. This includes if she gets pregnant, and decides to abort the baby. It's pretty cut and dry, but as always anything in life, it also depends on the morals. and values of each individual person. Now on to how a person can end up being pro-life and pro-choice at the same time.

I have always believed just as many other women do that a woman has a right to make her own decisions regarding her body this is no new concept. No other person should ever be making the decision on what happens to a woman's own body. An exception to this may be in an emergency where the woman is unable physically or mentally able to make the decision herself, and not to make the decision may threaten her life. I am sure that's pretty much a given in anyone's thinking. However; whether there should be some clear boundaries on what a woman can and cannot do with her own body have been argued for centuries I'm sure. In almost every state she is not legally allowed to decide to sell her body for money. It's still illegal in most states for her to decide to kill herself. So, the point is although pro-choice means self-choice there still is some limits on what that can be. In the end though, I must say on a whole, I do believe that women have the right to decide for themselves. For that matter so do men. I wouldn't go as far as the prostitution thing in my beliefs, but again in general I agree.

I have always also been a strong believer in the right to life of an innocent baby. My thinking is clear when I feel if women want the right to decide about their own bodies they need to take responsibility for not getting pregnant when they clearly do not want a baby. In today's world there is absolutely no excuse for getting pregnant unless you really want to. There is so much advertising, and information out there about contraception, you would literally have to be blind, deaf, and dumb (meaning stupid), not to know how to protect yourself. Please know that this in no way includes women who have been raped, or are psychology brainwashed into having children they do not want. Most women know what to do not to get pregnant, they just don't Always do it. No, if women want the right to decide about their bodies, they should never, ever think it's a man's responsibility concerning contraception. Women are the one's that get pregnant, not men. So, in the end I feel that a baby that's been conceived should never pay the price for a woman's neglect of her responsibilities toward her own body and using contraception. God does not want us to destroy life, but rather cherish it for all that it is.

Well, now you know how someone very we well might be both pro-life and pro-choice at the same time. If you like myself believe in woman's empowerment and their right to choose what happens to themselves as well as their bodies, you are most definite;y pro-choice. On the other hand if you believe that a baby has a right to life, and they should never be destroyed for the convenience of any woman, then you are most certainly pro-life as well. Rarely is anything in life black or white. Even in some of the most horrific situations, different answers and beliefs can be found. So, the next time you're thinking about whether your pro-life or pro-choice, consider the fact that you may just well be both, and at the same time!
