Of course this does not mean that their behavior can not be corrected if needed. If there is any type of behavior that is not in any way related to their disability then they can be corrected or disciplined in the same way that any other student can be. It is however very rare for a child with a disability to ever be suspended from school unless they cause some type of physical harm to someone else in their class. It usually has to be something that is repeated on numerous occasions. Most teachers know very simple and easy techniques that they can use with the children when they disrupt the class in any way that does not pertain to their disability.
Most children with disabilities are also assigned a special study team that can help plan out some type of behavioral intervention plan that will hopefully help to address the issue. This is usually only if it has become a repeated problem that they have to deal with. So parents who have children in special education classes really should not worry about them being mistreated in any way, even if they do misbehave. One thing that people should understand is that all kids misbehave even those who happen to have disabilities. I have even taken the time to observe some of these special education classes and I must say that the teachers really do a great job. There classrooms are run very well and when a child misbehaves they handle it appropriately. One thing that you should remember is that each child is different so therefore the teachers handled each one of them differently. The bottom line is that Special Education student learn differently from everyone else and may even react differently from others, but they really are just like any other kid, and should be treated as such by everyone not just by their teacher.
