New Years resolutions often fizzle out quickly. If you are thinking of waiting until the new year to start your new diet plan you may want to think about it again. Many people set New Year's resolutions concerning weight loss, few keep them. This is partially because these resolutions are empty promises that usually don't mean much. People have become used to setting goals at this time. They've also become used to breaking these goals. Setting your goal earlier in the previous year, around the holiday, may be key to you actually keeping you diet goal. You have already trained your body to stick to a plan, and you won't back out because of it's a new year.
Starting a new diet around the holidays can work for other reasons. It takes a lot of discipline to start a diet around this time. You will be tempted with lots of food from parties, get togethers and family meals. You will also be much busier than normal. If you can stick to a diet during a time as tempting as this, you can stick to a diet during anytime. You will teach yourself to avoid temptations and eat in moderation. You will learn to reward yourself without going over. You will learn when to say no. If you can survive the holidays on a diet, you can survive a diet anytime.
Starting a diet during the holidays teaches great traits. Traits like self-discipline and self-control will have to be mastered to stick your diet during this time. These are often the types of traits that are missing from people who want to lose weight. Your new found self-control will help you in the future stick to your diet plan and continue with your weight loss goals. It also takes lots of determination to stick to your plan during the holidays. Determination is something you will need lots of, if you want to stay on a diet and lose weight.
If your one of those people thinking about starting a diet during the holidays don't listen to those little voices in your head. You know the ones that say "Just wait until after Christmas," or the one that says " Enjoy the holidays and start a diet later." These voices are keeping your from doing something you should. You can start a diet during the holidays. You can stick to it. It won't be easy. It will take self-discipline, sacrifice and self-control. But those are traits you need to have anyway. Do what seems un-natural, start your diet during this time. I'm positive you won't regret your choice.
