Eggs can even be cooked in the microwave. But, did you know you can steam cook eggs, too? Yep. All you need is a pot with a steam rack. There's even more than one way you can steam eggs, so continue reading to learn more about this neat, new way you can cook your eggs.
Health Benefits
You might be wondering why someone would want to steam eggs or what the benefit would be. Well, steam cooked eggs, like hard-boiled eggs, have fewer calories and fat than fried eggs because there's no extra oil or butter used.
How Do You Steam Eggs?
Steaming eggs is very similar to boiling eggs. Using a steamer or a pot with a rack, you bring some water to a boil in a pot, and then set the eggs on top of the pot to be cooked by the steam. There's also a Chinese version of steamed eggs that is a little different. Instead of setting the eggs over the steam in their shells, you beat the eggs like an omelet and then cook them over the steam in a dish.
Steamed Eggs vs. Hard-Boiled
Now, you may be wondering if there's a difference between steamed eggs and hard-boiled eggs since the cooking methods are so similar. Well, there is. The shells of steamed eggs are much easier to peel than those of hard-boiled eggs. I find this is particularly beneficial when you're cooking farm-fresh eggs because the shells of farm-fresh eggs are much thicker and more brittle than your normal eggs from the store.
