Can Women Be Badasses and Over 50?

Jessie Penn
Beauty might be the most important thing to many women, once the big 50 birthday rolls around. Skin care must begin long before they are seated in the senior citizen section. Besides skin care, staying fit is another factor to nurture as even a few extra pounds can cause the body to appear older than it is. It's not just the waistline and sagging upper arms, pounds add age to the face as well.

Skin is a virtual record of how much direct sun and damage from sunburns it was subjected to. If was the skin protected from harmful sun rays, the skin will remain smooth versus leather-looking. Of course, we can't cover our faces, and the face is exposed to the sun more than the rest of our bodies. Wearing a hat can help, but wearing a sunblock (especially around the eye areas) help to prevent premature wrinkles and fine facial lines.

The skin also suffers the effects of sleep deprivation, and getting adequate sleep may prevent premature wrinkling. The pituitary gland just so happens to work with the hypothalamus. The pituitary gland is called the "master gland" but is actually controlled by the hypothalamus. Working together, they control many other endocrine functions, by secreting melatonin hormones important to female menstrual cycle and biological clock, as well as many other body functions. It These hormones feed the skin with nutrients to maintain its youthful appearance. Many believe inappropriate sleep patterns could play a big role in the aging process.

Many peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women can experience an excess of estrogen and develop thick bodies and resistance to fat-burning from an imbalance of progesterone. Additionally, estrogen replacement therapy also contribute to excess estrogen levels. Most weight gain, common in middle-aged women, can be a consequence of added estrogen, and results in increased belly fat.

Some foods are estrogen inhibitors, and can help fight the battle of the bulge. Broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, citrus products, bee products, onion and garlic are some beneficial foods.

Hair also needs extra attention in order maintain the badass babe appearance. Bangs can cover forehead lines, adding blond highlights, and boosting faded hair color can give a more youthful look. Some complexions can look beautiful with a frame of silver hair, but others are best returned to its original color.

Just because 50 came banging on your door does not mean you need to dress in "old lady" clothing styles. Women of today are more active, fashion conscious, and sexy than women of several decades ago were. They are independent, self-assured, and intelligent and in no way ready for the rocking chair. But, opting to wear clothing meant for someone much younger can actually call attention to their age. Women who are over 50 and beautiful often opt for classic, elegant or tasteful casual clothes. Choose clothes that brighten the face and hide flaws you'd rather not display to the world, such as sagging upper arms or not-so-perky breasts.

Choosing the right clothes, hairstyles, and staying fit can make the difference between looking 50-plus or 40-something. There's no need to stop being a badass woman just because you may now be labeled as a senior citizen!

A woman that was beautiful, graceful, and decidedly sensuous will continue to enjoy her sexuality as she always did. Her attitude and presence shows in the way a woman wears her make-up, hair, clothes, and the way she moves.
