Locations: Canada is located in 60 N 90 W, surrounded by 3 oceans. The Pacific Ocean in the west of Canada, the Arctic Ocean in the North of Canada, and lastly the Atlantic in the east of it. Canada is bordered by United State's Alaska to the west , and the rest of the 48 States in the South, the Canada-United States Border, is said to be the world's largest common border between two countries. Canada is also located a bit south west from Greenland.
Capital City: The Capital City of Canada is Ottawa. Ottawa sits in Ottawa Valley, near the southern bank of the major river, Ottawa River. Based on the Census taken in 2006 (3 years ago), the population of Canada's Capital was at a little over 810,000 inhabitants. The Coordinates of Ottawa are 45.417 N 75.7 W. It has the second largest population count in Ontario. Ottawa has an area of 1,072 sq. mi. Ottawa has a climate which leads to blazing hot summers, and ice cold, chilly winters. With a humid continental climate range, it has had a record high of 100 degrees F. in 1913 in the Summer, and a record low of -38 degrees F. in the Winter of 1933. Ottawa also has the title of the seventh coldest capital in the world. Ottawa is called the "most educated city in Canada" because it has the largest amount of university graduates with PhDs. Most of the Ottawa population has graduated from a college, or university.
Religion: The religion in Canada based on the 2001 Census is that the majority is Christianity, with a whopping 77% of the population pertaining to that religion. This is most likely influenced because of its neighbor, the U.S., which 78.4% of the population decided that their religion was Christianity in the year 2007 when a survey was taken. And because of the founders of Canada which were the French, which 54% of their population is Christian according to the 2007 poll. Also, 16.2% of Canadians said that they had nothing to do with any religion. The rest of the 6% of the population is based on Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism.
Ethnic Groups: Based on the 2006 Census it says that Canada has up to 43 different ethnic groups, and according to the census at LEAST 100,000 people claimed to be from each of the 43 different ethnic groups. The Census states that at 21%, the largest ethnic group is English. Followed by French at 15.8%, Scottish at 15%, Irish at 14%, German at 10%, Italian at 5%, Chinese at 4%, and the last 7%, from First Nations and Ukrainian.
Why This Country Speaks French: Canada's past consists of many explorers from the Europe region landing in Canada, and going back home after failing in sustaining the colony. One of the first explorers documented to have explored the region of Canada was Jacques Cartier for France in 1534. But what could be declared as one of the most historic events for Canada was when a French explorer by the name of Samuel de Champlain landed on Canada in 1603 and established the first permanent settlement in Canada out of any of the European explorers. Because of him being French, this influenced the first growing population in Canada. Samuel had established two settlements around Canada, in Port Royal, and Quebec City. That's most likely the reason Canada speaks French as its main language, because the first explorers to live in Canada, were from France.
