Canada's Top 10 Celebrities

Although Canada is not known for much other then cold weather and snow, we have produced our fair share of famous celebrities here over the years. Some are really famous and you might know while others you might never even heard of. I picked Canada's 10 Famous people that are still alive today so feel free to sit back, relax and enjoy...

1. AVRIL LAVIGNE- Avril Lavigne was born Sept 27, 1984 in Belleville Ontario, only an hour away from where I live now. Avril is best known for her skater look and punk/pop music. In 2006 Avril was ranked 7th Most Powerful Canadian in Hollywood with over six #1 songs world wide. Although dropping out of high school in grade eleven, it really didn't seem to affect her career or success. Even to this day Avril Lavigne is still making records and appearing in movies and still is known as one of Canada's Most Famous People.

2. JIM CARREY - Jim Carrey was born January 17, 1962 in Newmarket Ontario. Jim Carrey's acting career started in (1984) with a short lived sitcom called 'Duck Factory". After this Jim played a bunch of minor roles in some movies until the early 1990's when he appeared in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". After this movie Jim Carrey was one his way to becoming a star. After Ace Ventura came many more movies that Jim had lead roles in like "The Mask", "Dumb and Dumber", "Cable Guy', "Bruce Almighty", "Man On The Moon" and many many others. Like Avril Lavigne Jim Carrey dropped out of high school at the age of 16 but again didn't affect his career or success. Jim Carrey has nominated for 6 Golden Globes but only won 2 for his movies "Man On The Moon" and "The Truman Show". Jim Carrey owns his own 25 million dollar jet had has easily made over $125,000,000 to date and for this is known as one of Canada's Most Successful and famous people.

3. SHANIA TWAIN- Shania Twain was born August 28, 1965 in Windsor Ontario. At the young age of only 10 Shania started to write her first songs and was destine for stardom. By age 16 Shania who was known by her real name then "Eilleen" had played in her first band and was good at what she did. Shania finally signed her first recording contract in 1991 and changed her name from "Eilleen" to "Shania which is a Ojibwa word meaning "On My Way". Shania is probably best known for her third album called "Come On Over" which sold over 15,355,018 copies world wide and is the biggest selling Country album of all time. Shania over the years has also became the Best Selling Country Female Artist Of All Time. Shania is still going strong today with having appeared in TV shows as "The Apprentice" and in September 2007 released a second fragrance called "Shania Starlight". With all that she also has won 5 Grammy awards and in 2003 was inducted into the Canada's Walk Of Fame making Shania another one of our great famous Canadians.

4. MIKE MYERS- Born May 25, 1963 in Scarborough Ontario, Emmy award winning actor, comedian, screenwriter and film producer Mike Myers started his acting career doing TV commercials when he was only 9 years old. Mike Myers graduated from high school in 1982 and went on to do great things like Saturday Night Live in 1989 to 1995. Mike has been in over 21 movies through out his career like Wayne's World (1992), Wayne's World 2 (1993), Shrek (2001), Shrek 4-D (2003), Cat In The Hat (2003) and the list goes on and on. Mike Myers is a very talented actor who has won many awards and was even given a star on The Walk Of Fame in 2002. Because of all his hard work and accomplishments Mike Myers is known as one of Canada's Top 10 Famous People.

5. PAMELA ANDERSON- Born July 1, 1967 in Ladysmith British Columbia. Pamela Anderson is probably best known for her role as CJ Parker in the TV hit BAY WATCH which she played from 1992 to 1997. Pamela Anderson has done it all and she is best known as an actress, sex symbol, glamor model, producer, TV personality and author. She is also known for the sex tape her and Tommy Lee and her relationship with Kid Rock, Pamela has been in over 22 movies and TV shows and in 21 issues of Playboy Magazine. She model for Playboy for the first time in late 1989 shortly after signing a modeling contract with Labatt's. Some of Pamela's most famous works are her movie "Barb Wire" in 1996, V.I.P TV show in 1998 and Home Improvement from 1991 to 1997. On March 2006 received a star on Canada's Walk Of Fame.

6. BRYAN ADAMS- Born November 5,1959 in Kingston Ontario. At the young age of 15 Bryan dropped out of high school to start his musical career. He played a lot of small clubs through the years until 1978 when at the age of 18 decided to send in some demos to A&M Records in Toronto Canada and was signed up shortly after. They signed him up for one dollar! After that its all pretty much history. Bryan went on to make a bunch of number one hits and his fourth album "Reckless" is the best selling Canadian album of all time.

7. ESTELLA WARREN- Born December 23, 1978 in Peterborough Ontario (where I live), Estella started off as a Synchronized Swimmer. By the age of 17 Estella Warren had accomplished becoming National Champion and 3 time Canadian National Champion. She had also gotten a bronze medal at the 1995 Junior Championships. After this she went on to do modeling for Sports Illustrated Magazine, Snoecks 2000, Vogue Magazine, Vanity Fair and Victoria's Secret Magazine and also two commercials for Chanel No.5. She's only 30 years old and already accomplished all this and for that Estella Warren will always be known as one of Canada's Top 10 Famous People!

8. KIEFER SUTHERLAND- Born December 21, 1966 in London England but immigrated to Canada in 1975. Emmy and globe award winning TV and film actor Kiefer Sutherland is probably best known for his lead role as "Jack Bauer" in the hit TV show 24. Kiefer and his family have been in the movies for decades and through this time kiefer has managed to accomplish an amazing amount. First off he owns his own recording studio and record label called "Iron Works". Kiefer has been in over 71 films and TV shows through out his career and also has won a number of awards including two Emmy's in 2006 for his role in the series 24.

9. SHANNON TWEED- Born March 10, 1957 in St. John's Newfoundland, Shannon Tweed rose to stardom in 1982 when she posed for Playboy Magazine and became Miss November 1981. In 1982 Shannon started her movie career which she manage to keep going for two decades although some have said the shows and movies she has done are raunchy. Never the less Shannon was Playmate of the year in 1982 and in 1983 hooked up with founder of band "KISS" Gene Simmons self proclaimed rock god, and has been with him ever since. Shannon has had two kids and waits for the day that Gene will marry her. She stills appear from time to time in TV shows but her most recent work has only been in their families reality TV show "Gene Simmons: Family Jewels". She still Canadian and has accomplished star status and this is why Shannon Tweed has made it on Canada's Top 10 Famous People.

10. TOMMY CHONG- Born May 24, 1938 in Edmonton Alberta. There's not really a lot to say about Tommy Chong except at the younger age of 11 he started to write music. At some point in his life he bought a night club in Vancouver called "Elegant Parlor" where he played every night as the house band. It is said the he played with a very young Jimi Hendrix at some point. Tommy Chong is best known for his comedy movies Cheeh and Chong which is considered one of the most successful comedy acts of all time. Tommy Chong still plays in the odd TV show mostly as a Hippie. He has been on "Dharma and Greg" and regularly plays on "That 70's Show" as you guess it a Hippie. In 2006 Tommy Chong wrote a book about his time in jail and his life called "The I Chong: Meditations From The Joint". Although he hasn't accomplished as much as everyone one else on the list Tommy Chong is still of Canada's Top 10 Famous People.

Canada has produced way more celebrities and famous people inventors and so but this is just a short list of the most current and most successful Canadian celebrities.
