You Tube Video Shows Providence St. Medical Center Employees Dancing for Cancer, Wtih Pink Gloves

The Dancing for Cancer Video on You Tube by the Providence St. Medical Center employees is awesome!

A few years back I went to the doctor's as I was lactating and was concerned that I might have something cancerous going on. After a mammogram and the doctor's physical exam, the results showed that I had two lumps on my left breast. With all this talk about the Public Health Reform Option and mammograms not recommended for women under age 50, I have to say that I'm not sure I agree. I was glad I knew I had a potential problem.

I've been having routine mammograms for the last five years every 6 months or so. About 5 years ago, I had a biopsy and the results showed my lumps to be benign. I probably should have the lumps removed because they hurt, as was suggested to me by my doctor, but at the time, I refused surgery because I didn't want to be deformed and because the tests were benign, I felt there was no reason to undergo the knife, except for eliminating the pain. I can relate to others who have gone through the scare of having breast cancer.

Tonight (November 30, 2009) on ABC news, there was a great article on a Video that was created by a bunch of people dedicated to helping Women with Breast Cancer. From the lab technicians to the surgical staff to the cafeteria employees and it seems everyone between, got into the act. Over 200 'inspired, enthusiastic and joyous' employees at the Providence St. Medical Center in Portland, Oregon got in on the adventure and kicked up their heels in dance in a new You Tube Video called 'Dancing for Cancer'. Search for Dancing for Cancer, Pink Gloves if the links below become defunct.

The video crew took two days to capture the choreography. The employees were quick to stress that they are not professional dancers, but felt that if their hand gyrations and wiggling butt motions could get people laughing, and at the same time, raise money for Cancer Awareness, well, that was all it took.

When I saw it, it brought tears to my eyes. To see a bunch of people dressed with pink gloves on their hands made me laugh. They kind of reminded me of the Smurfs. And that is exactly what one of the administrative staff who helped with the video adventure said as ABC interviewed her, "Laughter is the best medicine" she said.

With almost 2 million views already, the video has made a quick hit with many already. I hope they make their goals

Medline Industries Company is the maker of the new pink gloves and are currently running a campaign on breast cancer awareness. From their website, "Medline has donated almost a half million dollars to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to provide education and free mammograms to those in need and continues to make contributions every year."
