Cancer-Fighting Foods

Craig Olson
Introduction

Unfortunately there are also cancer-promoting foods such as meat and fat and salt and sugar. This article will deal with the good foods and the bad ones.

Evolution

Man has evolved to survive on a certain diet.

Primitive man did not eat sugar, cake, candy bars, yogurt, refined foods, etc. Primitive man ate fruits, vegetables, raw foods, etc. Primitive man did not drink coffee or soda pop.

The body evolved with certain defenses to diseases such as mental illness, cancer, etc. The body evolved on a high fiber diet. The cavemen did not eat sour cream or cream cheese. They only drank milk when they were babies. Today milk has become a sacred cow.

There are those who reject Darwin.

One of those people is President of the US. However, I would not go to the President for medical advice. I see diseases as often being mistakes in evolution.

Cancer

My theory is that cancer is caused by damage to the DNA. We have certain defenses to this. Bad DNA can replicate into more bad DNA. A bad cell can produce another bad cell sometimes. Cancer cells are abnormal. This may seem simple to some, but I have often been criticized for writing on too complex a level.

Ultimately the disease is on a molecular level.

Linus Pauling felt that the molecules have to be corrected. This is easier said than done, unfortunately. Yet it is not hopeless. Chance favors the prepared. The more you know, the more likely you are to have success. This is also true of mental illness, hypertension, and various killer diseases.

Pathologists often study pathology on a cellular level.

Food

Various studies have been made about food consumption and cancer. I favor the use of nutrition whether the cancer is inoperable or operable. If it is operable, than both surgery and nutrition can be used.

Any part of the body can get cancer.

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph nodes. Leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow resulting in too many white blood cells. Most of the blood cells are red, but some of them are white.

A study in Japan by Dr. Takeshi Hirayama followed 122,000 women. Women who consumed a lot of meat had a nearly four times greater chance of developing breast cancer compared with women consuming less meat. Those with intermediate consumption of meat were 2.55 times more likely to develop breast cancer than the low-usage group. The same exact trends were seen for egg, butter, and cheese consumption.

It seems that the digestion of meat produces strong carcinogenic substances, particularly deoxycholic acid, in the colon according to Verne Varona (2001). Also there is a theory that cooked meat products have carcinogens, particularly charred meats.

But what should you eat?

Studies have shown that vegetarian diets are associated with decreased tumor growth and longer tumor induction.

A Hawaiian study showed that uterine cancer was associated with a higher level of fat intake. A higher level of fiber intake was associated with a reduced risk of uterine cancer. A higher consumption of soy products and other legumes was associated with a lower risk of this cancer.

Conclusions

This is a very complex subject, and I will probably provide more information in the future if there is interest. Some of this work is very controversial, but also very important. My recommendation is to follow the vegan diet, which consists of plant foods. Vegetables, fruits, and grains are good. This month (October) is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
