(- April 16, 2006)
Five years - two cousins, two
sisters - aunts - two parents - Grand
Parents - gathered at the board
for the festive repast;
Easter Dinner.
A phone jangled in the kitchen -
missing cousins - brothers, sisters,
aunts, uncles, children, parents? A brother
who is cousin, nephew, and grand son
calling to speak of finding a sister,
daughter and aunt who is Mother
stroked upon an apartment floor.
Darkness and concern and unconcern
and fearful worrying, doubt and anger
and love; a silent and boisterous
confusion - seven voices all merging
suddenly on an Easter Sunday in a room
laden with afternoon sunlight
and a feast's delights.
Five years - another April 16
and there are only questions
where once a body, a heart, life
and light - where a daughter, sister,
aunt, and Mother resided - gone,
a candle snuffed in six weeks,
leaving only the night,
and the doubts -
and the questions -
