Cancer Prevention: Not as Hard as it Seems

Roger C.
You may think that in order to prevent cancer you should have broad knowledge about this disease, its ramifications, DNA mutations and advanced drugs or treatments to fight it or prevent it. This is not true, cancer prevention is not as hard as it seems; in fact it is fairly easy.

Fighting cancer is only about improving your habits and getting rid of the bad ones, so you need to make significant changes in your lifestyle in order to enjoy the benefits. You will need to make sacrifices such as eating healthier foods or making exercise, but it is nothing compared to the pain, emotional stress and financial burden you face when you get cancer.

The reality about cancer is that it does not discriminate. Is not a disease that only "happens to someone else", the risks of developing cancer are real for everyone. It is not a new disease either; cancer has been around since the beginnings of mankind, but it may have been mistaken by other diseases and its occurrence wasn't as high as it is now.

There are several factors in our modern lifestyle that may have sparked the increase in cancer incidents. Chemicals, pollution, habits such as excessive drinking and smoking, low physical activities, and a poor diet are only a few of the possible causes of the explosion of this phenomenon.

Since an effective cure for cancer has not been yet discovered, the strongest weapon we have is prevention. Prevention is extremely cheap when compared to the costs of radiation, chemotherapy and medication, so there is no reason to not consider it, especially if there's history of cancer in your family.

There are specific ways to prevent cancer. Cancer cells grow very fast in an environment rich in sugars and low in oxygen, so reducing your refined sugar intake and doing some exercise will help you in the prevention of cancer. Avoidance of smoking, extreme exposition to the sun, excessive drinking, and routine check-ups are other effective preventive measures, as well as increasing your intake of carotenoids (compounds found in green leafy vegetables) and antioxidants.

If you don't know much about nutrition or don't have the time to create and follow a balanced diet, you can take supplements to make sure you are receiving the essential amount of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. There are supplements that provide the required amount of vitamins, or minerals, other provide oils, and some others antioxidants. You need to make sure the supplements you take are approved by the FDA. Some cheap supplements might cause more harm than good, so you need to make sure you are taking something good.
