Candace Parker Dunks in a WNBA Game

TD
A rare act of basketball prowess occurred in women's basketball on Sunday.

In the WNBA, rookie Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks finished a breakaway late in a game against the Indiana Fever with a one handed slam. This marked just the second time that a player in the WNBA threw one down, the first being current Sparks player Lisa Leslie in 2002. Unlike Leslie, Parker will have more dunks to come in the near future.

Parker was the first round pick in the league's draft this year. Before that she led her Tennessee Lady Vols team to two straight championships, winning the Most Outstanding Player award both times.

Although some of you have never heard of Parker, or only heard of her from an annoying commercial that ESPN hammered over every viewer's head during their women's college basketball coverage, her name will definitely be in more headlines in coming years. Parker is just what the WNBA needs for further exposure to sports fans.
